🤿 Diving is a community sport — and this Labor Day weekend was a great example of that!

This group started their scuba journey in Bozeman, Montana, with the goal of becoming Open Water certified. After completing their academic & pool sessions, they discovered there were no Open Water certification dive dates available that worked for them. So they started making calls.

The great thing was that each dive shop they contacted didn't just say, "Sorry, we can't help." They encouraged the group to reach out to another shop that was a little closer to Bozeman and might be able to help them finish their certification.

Their search took them from Bozeman to Dive Magic in Boise — about a 7.5-hour drive away. That shop then directed them toward AWOL Adventure Sports "A Way Of Life" in Twin Falls — about 5.5 hours from Bozeman. While that was a little closer, AWOL suggested they give Idaho Dive Pirates a call.

When they reached out to us, we were happy to help! We worked with the group to get them prepared for their Open Water certification dives and get their underwater experience started.

Day 1 of Labor Day weekend with this group was a lot of fun! 🤿🏴‍☠️

But what we really want to recognize is the dive community as a whole.

We appreciate every shop and instructor that took the time to listen, help, and point these divers toward the next option — especially when that meant recommending another shop that could get them a little closer to home.

That's what makes diving such a great community.
Different dive shops.
Different locations.
One goal — helping divers get in the water and achieve their goals. 🌊🤿

A huge thank you to everyone who helped this group along their journey. We are proud to be part of a diving community that looks out for one another.

Sounds like Ririe will be down until it cools off a bit, last week first Thermocline was at 55 feet

A cyanobacteria health advisory has been issued for Ririe Reservoir in Bonneville County. People and pets should stay out of the water. Cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose a high risk to the health of pets and livestock and can cause illness in humans, especially small children.

Cyanobacteria are a natural part of Idaho’s waterbodies, but when conditions are right, they can multiply rapidly, or “bloom,” and release toxins into the water. Exposure to cyanotoxins through skin contact or ingestion can cause skin irritation, upset stomach, and more serious symptoms. Effects can be more serious in animals since they are more likely to drink the water.

Blooms don’t all look the same; they may look like mats, foam, spilled paint, or surface scum and have a foul odor. Use caution when recreating in and around water. When in doubt, stay out and keep pets out of the water.

Learn more about cyanobacteria blooms and how to report a potential bloom on the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality website at https://www.deq.idaho.gov/water-quality/surface-water/cyanobacteria-harmful-algal-blooms/

🎉🏴‍☠️ CONGRATULATIONS, TIANA! 🏴‍☠️🎉

Idaho Dive Pirates is excited to congratulate Tiana on earning her SSI Divemaster certification and officially becoming one of the newest diving professionals on our team!

When asked why she wanted to become a Divemaster, this is what Tiana had to say:

“I’ve always loved the water. There’s something relaxing and exhilarating under water. I’ve wanted to share my love of diving and exploring with my 5 kids. I wanted to show them the world and not miss out on the amazing underwater world. Scuba diving teaches many great life skills like reasoning, staying calm, planning, comfort with discomfort, mutual trust and accountability. I aimed at being a Divemaster to continually improve my diving skills and education. I want to be comfortable and confident when diving with my family and friends. I love helping new divers and supporting them. I’ve enjoyed cleaning the shark tank at the East Idaho Aquarium and sharing that experience with many local divers, and using it as an opportunity to practice my skills and help others get in some dive hours. The icing on the cake is the community service provided, and who doesn’t love shark encounters? I hope to continue my professional Scuba Diving path with the Idaho Dive Pirates. ”

Tiana, we are excited to have you continue that journey with us! Your passion for diving, helping others, serving our community, and sharing the underwater world with your family is exactly what being part of the Idaho Dive Pirates is all about.

Welcome to the professional ranks, Divemaster 🦈 Tiana! 🤿🏴‍☠️

We can't wait to see where your diving adventure takes you next!
