I NEED YOUR HELP – thank you in advance for taking the time to read why. My name is Kirsten Brazier, Airline Transport rated pilot (fixed-wing & helicopters) in Canada & U.S. Fed up member of only 6% female professional pilot population in North America for the past 30 years. You read that right, despite all our efforts over 30 years, it’s still 6%. We don’t officially track the aviation maintenance numbers here in Canada, but the last federal statistics I obtained the numbers went down from 2.7 to 2.3%. The gobal marine industry is even worse off.
That’s why I’m also the founder of The Sky’s No Limit – She is Anything! World’s Largest Aviation, Aerospace, Marine & Defence Diversity Outreach event www.sheisanything.ca/events.html, and the Achieve Anything Foundation. www.achieveanything.caWe’re inspiring female future leaders from shop floor to top floor in high-tech STEM fields with incredible, FREE, hands-on experience events.
DID YOU KNOW? Since 2012 we have made a difference for over 140,000 women and girls of all ages and cultures in North America, and so far, 13,384 women & girls have experienced the magic of first flight in a helicopter - FREE! Annually we give away over $250,000 of free helicopter rides to women & girls, all donated – mostly by men working in the construction industry and related trades. They absolutely love our event.
The survival of our non-profit foundation, and our epic annual event are in trouble, which is why I decided to reach out to the maintenance gals and ask for your help.
We’ve always relied heavily on in-kind partnerships to make our impossible event possible, and continue keeping it free for thousands to prevent barriers to participation. But we still need financial support to pay the many bills and we’re just not getting it this year. Particularly from the industries that stand most to benefit from diversity, equity and inclusion. This is truly disheartening, but collective energy from fellow maintainers could help turn that around.
How can you help?
· If you work for an inclusive and supportive company, whatever the industry, please ask them to consider sponsoring our upcoming diversity outreach event. · VOLUNTEER with us! Travel by whatever means necessary and bring a maintenance army to Abbotsford, BC and help April 27-28! There’s also remote opportunities to help from anywhere in the world.
