Catoosa, OK-OSSAA 4A State Championships are in the books. For the girls Katie McClure “comes out of nowhere” to place 2nd in her first ever high school track season in the high jump. Three coaches asked us where she came from because she didn’t jump against them at such and such meet. She cleared 5-2, but just missed her PR of 5-4 and a chance for gold. Katie is a leader in our Ag Program and is gone a lot during the track season. She was a member of the recently crowned State Championship Forestry Team. She jumps when she can and often times she’s either alone or with her father, the newly appointed high jump coach, Brandon McClure. Thank you to both for all your hard work this season. Casey Allen qualified in the 200m and the 400m run and ended her season with a 27.00 flat in the 200m and 61.34 in the 400m. Both of these young ladies are juniors and we are positive we will see them next year in their respective events. Mya Murray qualified in the Shot and ended her track career right where it started, in the Shot ring. It wasn’t how she or we wanted, but she is about to embark on an illustrious collegiate Powerlifting journey and we will miss her. Thank you Princess for being such a good supporter as well, always present, and you can always tell where she is sitting, you just have to listen.
Baker Hoskins spent the meet pulling Idabel points as an individual. He placed 4th in the Long Jump with a 21-8.25. He also made the finals of the 110m hurdles and earned Bronze with a 14.70. Baker kept on and placed second with a PR of 38.70 in the 300m hurdles. It was a 2,3,4 finish at State to end Baker’s Track career in Idabel. We’re very thankful for all of your time and effort you put in for the track program. We also appreciate the help of his mother Tiffany and all of her statistical and analytical knowledge when it comes to our Track team. Benny Mthethwa Long Jumped at State, but fell short of making the finals this season. We hope to see him jumping in college where he will be allowed to Triple Jump of which he is the leading Triple Jumper in Oklahoma and Arkansas according to Athletic.net. The last of the relays made the trip ranked 16th going into the last day of the meet. They finished 10th overall which was a much better finish than the rankings. Cassidy Pondexter, JaShawn Dixon, Aidyn James, Baker Hoskins ran that event. It was the farewell race for Dixon as he finished his senior season at State as well. Jaxson Taylor made his final appearance in the Pole Vault. He didn’t finish where he wanted to, but he understands the work now involved to get there. Bryce Bee entered into his first State Championship ranked 16th as well and finished 13th. Considering it was his 6th week of practice and ever even throwing the discus we are very proud of his performance.
Thank you to all of our supporters, fans, athletes, parents, and anyone else who was involved in our Track journey this season. Thank you to our Superintendent Alan Bryant and our Athletic Director Kevin Ball for showing up and supporting us at State, Regionals, and other random meets throughout the season. It is refreshing to have Administrators present and cheering the athletes on.
