Our local friends at the Hyde Park Trail have revealed their brand-new walkabout patch for 2026! To celebrate America's Semiquincentennial, the Town of Hyde Park, NY commemorated our revered 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the design!
That's not the only announcement. As local aficionados are keenly aware, the Hyde Park Healthy Trails season begins every Earth Day and lasts until the same holiday of the next year. This year, we are proud to co-host a kick-off hike on April 25, 2026, of the Roosevelt Woods Trail behind Franklin Roosevelt's historic home. The hike will be led by both an NPS park ranger and an NPS natural resource specialist.
Hikers should plan to rally at the picnic pavilion, next to the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center, at the Home of Franklin D Roosevelt National Historic Site by 9 a.m. The looped, maintained woods trail measures approximately 2.1 miles and passes the FDR home garden, orchard, ice pond, historic forest plantations, and stonework in a unique riverside woodland. Hikers should expect to navigate a moderate elevation change of about 100 feet and some moderately steep slopes.
