Hutchinson Area Tigers Special Olympics and Unified Club Hutchinson Area Tigers Special Olympics is a school-based team located in Hutchinson, MN.

The Hutchinson Area Tigers Special Olympics program began in September, 2012. This unified program offered individuals with disabilities and their peers (grades 3-12 + the local transition program, ages 8-21) an opportunity to compete in bowling, basketball and track (with the addition of equestrian competition in 2021). Athletes in grades 9-12 were eligible to earn a varsity letter by following s

et criteria established by program directors Mona Hjerpe and Lisa Kraft. The Hutchinson program was honored as one of the original 15 Special Olympics Minnesota Unified Champion Schools. Since it’s inception, the program has offered athletes opportunities to compete each year in a wide variety of local, area, regional and state competitions, engaged in a variety of school and community events (Homecoming float, attended/participated with peers at HHS varsity home football, basketball, hockey and track and field events), and yearly since 2015, organized team and community participation in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge.

Our Special Olympics Basketball team competed in the Regional Unified Basketball Tournament at Eden Prairie High School yesterday! 🏀⛹️⛹️‍♀️

After placing 1st in their level last year, they were moved up a level this year and earned a wonderful 2nd place! 🥈👏

💛First, this spring our Special Olympics Basketball team was awarded a grant through Hutchinson Youth Basketball Association (HYBA) to purchase new equipment for years to come! what an incredible investment in our athletes! THANK YOU!!!

🖤Second, Nate at Branded Solutions helped update a logo for our programs that can easily be adapted for each sport, giving our teams a unified look! (Peep our new profile picture) THANK YOU!!!

Our basketball team has been practicing hard leading up to their regional tournament in Prior Lake yesterday, and boy did it pay off! They took home 1ST PLACE in full court competition.

In just a short couple of weeks, they'll be heading to the Unified Regional Tournament at Eden Prairie High School to compete in the Unified Full Court Competition!

💛🖤What a great day spent at our State Special Olympics Bowling Competition! 🎳Our athletes showed heart, hustle, and incredible sportsmanship all day long! They really **knocked it out of the lanes!**🔥
And after all those strikes and spares, we made a well-earned pit stop for some victory fro-yo on the way home… because champions like ours deserve sprinkles! 🍦😄

🎃🎳 We had a frightfully fun time at our annual costume bowling event with our friends from Meghan's Place! From great costumes to strikes that gave us chills, it was a howl of a good time.
