We are dedicated to giving back to the community which is why a portion of the proceeds from every race is donated to various groups we support such as; Land Trust of North Alabama, Alabama State Parks, UAH Cross Country & Track Programs. Start your Fourth of July with a BANG at the Freedom 5k and Independence Mile! 🇺🇸 This fun, family-friendly race is the perfect way to kick off Independence Day before the BBQs, parades, and fireworks!

Post race burgers provided by Drake's Huntsville, face painting for the kiddos and much more!

The Freedom 5K is on Saturday July 4, 2026. It includes the following events: Freedom 5K, The Independence Mile - Only, and The Freedom 5K and Independence Mile.

Packet pick up is Friday 12-5 at RunningLane (2407 Memorial Pkwy SW Huntsville, AL 35801)
Packets can also be picked up at the race location Saturday morning from 6-6:45 but you will have to park farther away the later you get there!

We weren't sure it was going to happen at all this year so we're making it FREE for the short notice.

Proceeds have always 100% gone to the HPD Citizens Foundation Fund so we would still appreciate donations (there is a tab on the race page). For this year there will be no shirts or medals, just a good cause and a lot of hills.
