One of my (Helen) favorite memories as a blue belt was watching Master Carlos Gracie Jr. arrive at the school at least an hour before training just to stretch.

At the time, it really impressed me. Here was someone at the highest level of Jiu-Jitsu, still treating preparation and discipline as non-negotiable. Before every class, before every roll… stretching, mobility, taking care of his body. Never skipping the habit.

Years later, he still does the exact same thing (I took this picture just a few weeks ago).

That consistency taught me something powerful very early in my journey: longevity in Jiu-Jitsu is built through discipline in the small things nobody applauds. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

And honestly, that’s probably one of the reasons he’s 70 and still going strong on the mats today. What an example.
