Monday is the big day. This is the race Has been a goal since the plane ride home from the Philly marathon in 2019. Goals do come True. Hard work, perseverance, a great coach and a supportive family has gotten me here. 💙🦄💛

We are coming up on a big marathon weekend!! Hello Chicago and Boston! 👋🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

To my friends running their first marathon this weekend, I compiled a list of my favorite tips, pieces of advice and things I have learned from marathoning.

🔥Here are my 5️⃣tips for running your first marathon🏃‍♀️

1️⃣Respect every mile - there are 26 of them, each one of them gets you closer to where you want to go. Don’t take the early ones for granted or discount them.
2️⃣Start slow- let em pass you, way more fun to pass people at the end
3️⃣Drink from every water/ aid station - hydrate and refuel is key to staying strong. (No need to bring your vest, belt or water bottle. Travel light on race )
4️⃣Take a moment to listen to the sounds- I know many of us run listening to music or other audio but seriously take a few minutes to soak in the runners around you & the crowds. Especially the crowds, they will help your through those tough patches.
5️⃣Don’t wear the race shirt to the race. Wear something that you know is comfortable to run in, plus It’s bad luck!

As a runner and a coach, I find it so important to practice this. Not only does it boost your confidence, but it also reveals how far you have come from!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Reaching your goal should never be the only measuring stick on your journey. It’s absolutely a destination but it’s not where the joy, strength, and confidence come from. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That all comes from the JOURNEY!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yesterday I was training my client, “Betty.” Her goal is to run up to a certain destination and feel strong and fit while doing it. She's not there yet, but she is super close to her goal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Reflecting on her accomplishments in the 6 short weeks we have been working together, we're able to celebrate her small wins:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✴️ Yesterday she went her longest without pausing during her run — a full 12 mins! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✴️ She got a personal record going up a hill.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✴️ She ran her longest run yet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✴️ She did her best post-run workout, without feeling tired and defeated.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only is she crushing her physical work, but she is also crushing the internal work!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Betty's aware of her food choices, weighs herself only 2x/week (working her way to ditching the scale), and most importantly, she's feeling better in other areas of her life — work, mom and wife!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She is manifesting an empowered runner and it’s flippin' awesome! 💪🏻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Never get down on yourself for not reaching a goal, but rather CELEBRATE the steps you take to get there. That's where the real growth magic happens!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Let me tell you about “Alice.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We started training together 3 months ago. Alice was already a runner but she felt tired and slow on her runs. She wasn’t sure what she was doing or how to improve. She wanted to feel stronger, faster, and find a deeper connection to running.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Enter...ME!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I created a training plan for Alice that did exactly that. First, we worked on endurance, then we worked on speed and strength, and the 3rd month was all about putting it together — RUNNING WITH CONFIDENCE.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Watching Alice’s transformation journey was incredible. She started as a runner who was shuffling along, with her shoulders hunched forward, unsure of how long she could run. She turned into a runner who picks up her feet with intention, shoulders back and down, and runs with ease and confidence. She became an EMPOWERED RUNNER!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our last session is next week and I’m sad to see her go. However, I am so excited to watch her flourish! Get this, Alice joined her local running club and is meeting up for early morning weekend runs! She is hooked. 🙌🏻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Just because school's out for summer, doesn't mean that your fitness takes a vacation too! who are runners with kids in tow this summer, this post is for YOU.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Last week was a doozy for me — it was the first week of summer break for the kids and there was a heatwave in Los Angeles (of course)...so it was time to get creative!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me and my boys, It’s all about the destination or the promise of where we're going. 😜My favorite thing to do, if time allows, is to piggyback my run onto a kid activity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week, we ran around the park before the zoo opened, ran along the beach boardwalk before playing on the beach, and on Friday, I parked at one end of the park and ran to an attraction (train ride), got some popsicles, and ran back to the car. 💪🏻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My kids like to know where we're running to or if there's something "special" at the end of the run. It helps the run not feel so mundane to them. And of course, if all else fails, we play flight attendant where I throw snacks their way while I'm running. I mean, how do you think I taught Stroller Strides for so many years? 😂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3 years ago, I was 5 months postpartum and I started training for my first marathon! It had been 10 years since I last ran a marathon. I swore I would never run another marathon again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

15 years ago, sometime in my 20s, I told my mom I'd rather be outside all day than trapped in an office. Let's just say that my dad was NOT impressed with that, but I think deep down, my mom understood me — moms always do, don't they? 🥰⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although I struggled with the 9-5, I kept at it. It took me a really long time to give myself permission to explore creating a career that allows me to be outdoors doing what I love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I always knew in my heart that you should do what you love. 💟Because YOU ARE AT YOUR BEST when your career lights you up and you feel content...fulfilled. Who doesn't want to wake up in the morning and love what they do?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

☀️ Today’s the day to reaffirm my passion for running. So here I am, PLEDGING MY LOVE FOR RUNNING (shocked I know)! 🥰⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Last night as I was running with my kids, I got to thinking about my running the last few years, and balancing motherhood.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I came to the conclusion that it’s NOT a balancing act.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

➡️ For me, running and motherhood are mutually exclusive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I need RUNNING to keep me balanced. It’s my outlet — momma needs to sweat at least 4-5x a week. It helps me show up as a better version of myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

MOTHERHOOD motivates me to keep going — TO KEEP RUNNING. I love showing my kids what being healthy looks like. I love taking them on runs with me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ever feel like you’re making gains with your running, then suddenly, you're frustrated when the momentum tapers off?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For beginners, it happens in a few places — a few months after you start running, when you're training for a big event (closer to the race date), and a few months into a new training cycle. This often leads to major frustration and depending on how you view it, it can make you or break you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW TO NAVIGATE FRUSTRATION:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤️ Frustration can be the cause for change - make small adjustments...with your nutrition, sleep cycle, or the time of day you are running.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤️ Don’t try to fix/change your running schedule - give your training (schedule, working with a coach) at least 3 months to work its magic and see it through, then reassess how things are going. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
