Truth MG31: A Technician’s Take on a Precision Powerhouse
This past weekend, I had the privilege of setting up a Truth MG31 for a customer, and once again, this bow proved why it’s a top contender in 2025’s lineup of industry flagship models. I’m impressed by the MG31’s blend of precision engineering and user-friendly design. Here’s my initial dive into its performance, setup insights, and why it’s a must-try for serious archers.
-Out-of-the-Box Performance-
Before setup, I ran quick specs on the Truth MG31:Draw Weight: 58.9 lbs
Draw Length: 27⅛”
Holding Weight: 11.1 lbs (81% let-off, smooth and steady)
Arrow Speed: 298 fps with a 310.2-grain arrow
After adding 3 twists to the cables, I saw a speed gain of 3-4 fps, pushing it closer to 302 fps—impressive for a bow prioritizing both power and comfort.
-Why the Truth MG31 Shines-
The MG31’s engineering makes it a technician’s dream and an archer’s delight:KSET system is a game-changer. I tuned to a perfect bullet hole at two different center shot settings, achieving flawless paper tears with 400, 340, and 300 spine shafts. This versatility ensures pinpoint accuracy and forgiveness across arrow types.
Smooth Power Delivery: With adjustable let-off and optimized cam design, the MG31 balances explosive speed with a comfortable draw cycle, ideal for tailoring the back end feel to your liking.
Lightweight Durability: The compact 31” axle-to-axle design and robust construction make it agile in the field and rock-solid under pressure.
-Noteables-
Here are two key insights from my setup process to maximize your MG31 experience and success:
4-Fletch Vane Clearance: If you’re using a 4-fletch configuration, slightly adjust vane clocking to clear the roller guard. This is one area where future models could refine cable guard design for even smoother operation.
KSET Cam Lean Control: When tuning with KSET, monitor cam lean to ensure the cable stop fully engages the cable at full draw. If the cam rubs the yoke or only the cable stop’s edge contacts, revisit your center shot setting. This ensures consistent tuning and prevents wear and slipping the stop past the cable.
-Why I Recommend the Truth MG31-
As someone who’s tuned hundreds of bows, I can say the Truth MG31 stands out for its tuning ease, speed, and stability. Whether you’re chasing trophies or tight groups, this bow delivers. Its KSET system simplifies setup, while its performance rivals bows costing hundreds more.
