Another one in the books. Yesterday, my track kids competed in the 2A State Championship Meet and represented themselves, their school and their team very well. It was a long day (12 hours - with a 2 hour rain delay), but it was well worth it.
The boys were entered in 3 events. The boys 4x800 relay (Brian Hack, Riley LePrell, Daniel Evora, and Blake Bosley) was on pace for a huge season best and also a new school record when senior Blake Bosley suffered an injury during the final leg of the race. They still ended up taking 7th place and still ran their second best time of the season in 8:23 (only 3 seconds off the school record). Brian Hack ran under the midday sun and heat to compete in the 1600 where he ran 4:44 and placed 15th. Due to the injury that he suffered earlier in the day, Blake Bosley was unable to complete the 800 meter. Still a very successful day for these boys.
The girls were competing in 9 events on the day. We medaled in 4 events and ended up winning two of them.
-Mariah Howlett won the girls 1600 m (5:03.8) and the 3200 m (11:02.51). These were the first individual state titles for a female track runner in school history.
-Izzy Evely also medaled in the 1600 m with her 3rd place finish.
-Girls 4x100 (Chioma Asiegbunam, Sydney Thorne, Kiya Means, Destiny Benson) ran a new school record 49.93 to their 3rd place finish.
-Girls 4x400 (Raven Selden, Anna Gartner, Destiny Benson, Izzy Evely) ran a very close race and finished in 3rd place (less than 1 second out of 1st).
Below are the other events on the girls side and their results.
-Destiny Benson was one spot out of qualifying for the 100 meter finals by taking 5th in her prelim in a time of 12.9
-Girls 4x800 (Anna Gartner, Sophie Sczerbinski, Rachel Chi, and Monique Gandy - 3 freshman and 1 sophomore) finished in 10th place.
-Izzy Evely ran to a 7th place finish in the 800 meter
-Chioma Asiegbunam finished in 12th place with her sub 27 second 200 meter dash
-Girls 4x200 (Chioma Asiegbunam, Kennedy Barksdale, Katie Eisley, Kiya Means) finished in 14th with a new school record of 1:49.98
Very proud of my team and everything that they did this year. Go Knights.
