Another one in the books. Yesterday, my track kids competed in the 2A State Championship Meet and represented themselves, their school and their team very well. It was a long day (12 hours - with a 2 hour rain delay), but it was well worth it.

The boys were entered in 3 events. The boys 4x800 relay (Brian Hack, Riley LePrell, Daniel Evora, and Blake Bosley) was on pace for a huge season best and also a new school record when senior Blake Bosley suffered an injury during the final leg of the race. They still ended up taking 7th place and still ran their second best time of the season in 8:23 (only 3 seconds off the school record). Brian Hack ran under the midday sun and heat to compete in the 1600 where he ran 4:44 and placed 15th. Due to the injury that he suffered earlier in the day, Blake Bosley was unable to complete the 800 meter. Still a very successful day for these boys.

The girls were competing in 9 events on the day. We medaled in 4 events and ended up winning two of them.
-Mariah Howlett won the girls 1600 m (5:03.8) and the 3200 m (11:02.51). These were the first individual state titles for a female track runner in school history.
-Izzy Evely also medaled in the 1600 m with her 3rd place finish.
-Girls 4x100 (Chioma Asiegbunam, Sydney Thorne, Kiya Means, Destiny Benson) ran a new school record 49.93 to their 3rd place finish.
-Girls 4x400 (Raven Selden, Anna Gartner, Destiny Benson, Izzy Evely) ran a very close race and finished in 3rd place (less than 1 second out of 1st).

Below are the other events on the girls side and their results.
-Destiny Benson was one spot out of qualifying for the 100 meter finals by taking 5th in her prelim in a time of 12.9
-Girls 4x800 (Anna Gartner, Sophie Sczerbinski, Rachel Chi, and Monique Gandy - 3 freshman and 1 sophomore) finished in 10th place.
-Izzy Evely ran to a 7th place finish in the 800 meter
-Chioma Asiegbunam finished in 12th place with her sub 27 second 200 meter dash
-Girls 4x200 (Chioma Asiegbunam, Kennedy Barksdale, Katie Eisley, Kiya Means) finished in 14th with a new school record of 1:49.98

Very proud of my team and everything that they did this year. Go Knights.

WOW, what a day yesterday. My track team traveled to the 2A West Regional at Polk Co HS and had a very good day.

The boys team ended up qualifying their 4x800 relay (Brian Hack, Riley LePrell, Daniel Evora, Blake Bosley) for the state meet by taking 2nd with a season best time of 8:21. Later in the day, Brian Hack took 3rd in the 1600 m run and Blake Bosley 2nd in the 800 m run which got them both into the 2A State Championship.

The girls ended up qualifying in 9 of the 10 events that we competed in.
-4x800 relay (Anna Gartner, Sophie Sczerbinski, Rachel Chi, Monique Gandy) 3rd place
-100 m dash - Destiny Benson 3rd place (also had all 3 of my girls make the finals. Chioma Asiegbunam just missed qualifying by taking 5th and Sydney Thorne took 8th).
-4x100 relay (Asiegbunam, Thorne, Kiya Means, Benson) 1st place
-1600 m - Mariah Howlett 1st place, Izzy Evely 2nd place
-4x200 relay (Asiegbunam, Kennedy Barksdale, Katie Eisley, Means) 4th place
-800 m - Izzy Evely 2nd place (Gartner and Gandy did not qualify but placed by taking 6th and 7th)
-3200 m - Howlett 1st place (she lapped every girl except 3 and 2nd place was only 50 meters ahead of her when she finished).
-200 m - Asiegbunam 2nd place
-4x400 relay (Raven Selden, Gartner, Benson, Evely) 1st place

When the day was done, it was announced that the girls team won the team competition which is the first time in LNC history that has been done on the girls or boys side. They did this without having a field team or any hurdlers.

Finally, the 4 events that the girls team won ALL set NEW REGIONAL RECORDS.
-4x100 - 49.78 seconds
-4x400 - 4:09.77
-1600 m - 5:04.59
-3200 m - 11:05.38

Next up, 2A State Championship on Friday at NC A&T in Greensboro.

Great Job Knights.

Congratulations to the girls XC team on their great season they had this year. The girls team won their 4th straight Big South Conference Championship, their 2nd straight 2A West Regional title, and came away from the 2A State Meet in 5th place. In addition to Izzy Evely finishing in the top 10 at the state meet, there were three individuals who achieved new personal records at the state meet: Freshman Anna Gartner 20:52, Sophomore Rachel Chi 21:06, and Senior Aisha Ly 22:56. The girls will only graduate one runner out of their top 7 so they will be primed and ready to go for another great season next fall. Great season Knights.

Congratulations to the boys XC team yesterday as they were crowned 2016 2A State Champions. This marks the first time in LNC history that a boys athletic team has won a team state title. The boys beat out Smoky Mountain by 27 points to claim their first state championship. They were led by Senior Brian Hack (14th place). The next 3 runners for LNC followed closely behind with only a 29 second gap and the top 5 only were separated by 49 seconds. The other boys who contributed to this great achievement were as follows: Jack Bosley-26th, Derek Bole-28th, Daniel Evora-29th, Blake Bosley-40th, Connor Starr-49th, and Chase Starr-62nd. Great Job boys on a wonderful season.

Also, my boys 4x200 (Jacob Flowes, Josh Jones, Chidozie Asiegbunam, and Scott Pledger) ran a new school record of 1:33.3 AND Senior Scott Pledger broke the school record in the boys 200 m with a time of 23.4.

The boys and girls track teams had a great day today at the Big South Conference Championship held at South Point HS. The boys team finished the day taking 4th place of the 8 teams in the conference and the girls were Big South Runners Up....keep in mind we don't compete in the hurdles and any field events. Not a bad day by only competing in 10 of 18 events.

Other conference champions were:

Had a great day at the 2A west regional in Morganton. Both the boys and girls teams qualified for their 7th straight trip to state. The boys had under a 1 minute spread between the #1 and #7 runners and finished in 2nd place. The girls took 1st place with 3 of them in the top 10. Junior Lauren Jones was 10th, sophomore Mariah Howlett was 2nd and sophomore Izzy Evely was the regional champ. Next up will be the 2A state meet next Saturday at Ivey Redmon Park in Kernersville. Finished our cross country invitational portion of our season today at the NCRunners Elite Invite in Kernersville. My girls team finished the invite season undefeated with their 1st place finish in the invite division. The Lady Knights were led by 1st place finisher Izzy Evely and 2nd place finisher Mariah Howlett. Backing them up were Raven Selden and Lauren Jones who placed in the top 16 and the rounding out our scoring was senior (and newly crowned homecoming queen) Libby Ernest.
The boys Varsity team ended up being the guinea pigs on the new course which helped all their teammates out in later races but still had a good showing placing 9th out of 38 schools. Brian Hack led the boys team with Alex Manwill behind him.
The rest of the team had a great showing as well in the grade level races with posting season or personal bests. Katie Midgley, Rachel Chi, Evelyn Gandy, Savannah Schroeder, Jalen Chavis, Riley LePrell, and Soham Phatak all posted new season or personal best times of at least 1 minute or better.
Next up for the Knights will be the Big South Conference Championship on October 20 at Ashbrook HS.
Great Job Knights.
