⚽️ “SCAN! SCAN! CHECK YOUR SHOULDER!” 👀

We hear coaches say it ALL the time.

But here’s the question…

👉 Have we actually taught our players WHAT they’re scanning for?

If we don’t explain the purpose, “scan” just becomes another fancy soccer word instead of an opportunity to teach players how to understand the game.

When a player scans, they should be collecting information:

🔵 Where is the SPACE?
🟡 Where are my TEAMMATES?
🔴 Where are the OPPONENTS & PRESSURE?
⚽ What are my SUPPORT OPTIONS?
🥅 Where is the GOAL — and where is the DANGER if we lose possession?

Scanning isn’t about moving your head.

🧠 It’s about collecting information BEFORE the ball arrives so you can make a better decision WHEN it arrives.

As coaches, our job isn't just to tell players what to do.

Our job is to help them understand WHY.

SCAN EARLY. SCAN OFTEN. SCAN WITH PURPOSE. 👀⚽
