Shakerag Hounds is honored to recognize Jessica Cardot for her years of dedicated service to our club.
Jess first caught the hunting bug through her work exercise riding and training for local farms and hunt members. After officially joining Shakerag Hounds in 2014, she quickly became an active and valued member of the community.
She began whipping-in early on, showing a natural instinct and intuition with both hounds and territory. Over the years, Jess worked tirelessly in the kennels and with the pack, always putting in the time and care that strong hound work requires.
Jess also dedicated herself to landowner relations, hosting our annual Landowners Party each year. Alongside her mother, Jan Cardot, she prepared delicious meals, decorated the clubhouse, and gathered thoughtful door prizes to welcome and thank the landowners who so generously open their properties to our club.
In 2016, she joined the Hunt Committee and went on to serve as Hunt Committee Chair, working closely with the Masters to ensure smooth and successful operations. In 2024, Jess was elected Master-- a testament to her leadership, dedication, and deep commitment to the sport.
Jess’ service as Master coincided with a historic time for Shakerag, as the club transitioned from an almost 40-year period with only two huntsmen. She played a key role in helping to find, select, and integrate new professional staff, ensuring the continued strength and future of the hunt.
When Jess stepped down to move to Aiken, she made it clear that her connection to Shakerag remains strong. She intends to continue her membership and looks forward to hunting with us, especially at our Elberton fixtures!
While Jess has moved away, her impact on Shakerag is lasting. We are grateful for all she has given to the club and hope to see her back in the field with us next season.
