🌟 Thank You for an Incredible Weekend! 🌟
The 2025 S&C Labor Day Showcase was a huge success! The weather couldn’t have been better, and it was amazing to see so many fans and families fill the stands to cheer on our athletes throughout a weekend packed with competitive games.
👏 Congratulations to all of our champions! Photos of the 1st and 2nd place teams are attached to this post so you can celebrate their accomplishments right along with us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every player, coach, family, and spectator who made this weekend so special. Events like this are a reminder of the strength of our community—both on and off the field. 💙🥎
We can’t wait to see you again—hope to see you at the next S&C tournament!
➡️ Update on Midwest Speed player Gia Tirevold:
As many of you know, we experienced a very scary moment when Gia collapsed on the field. Thanks to the quick actions of her mom, coaches, medical staff, and first responders, Gia received the immediate care she needed. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who stepped in and for the prayers and support from our entire softball community.
Here is an update from her mom:
Gia was admitted on 8/30 for Cardiac Arrest. We suspect that she went into Ventricular Tachycardia and then went pulseless. She received CPR for a long time until she was able to get a dose of epinephrine, an airway, and one shock from the defibrillator. Once her labs and symptoms returned back to normal after the trauma of CPR, we were able to see that her QT wave in the heart rhythm was prolonged. Because the heart labs and imaging were all normal at this point, her rhythm should have corrected itself as well. Her QT wave continues to hold steady at a prolonged state. This is something that they believe she was born with, and she is lucky to be alive.
Because of this, physicians have advised that a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) be placed in order to keep her safe and allow her to continue sports. She has undergone multiple lab draws, EKG, Echocardiogram, CT angiogram, Cardiac MRI, and genetic testing. The plan is to have surgery under general anesthesia for the placement of her new S-ICD that will deliver a shock to her if needed. She will also be on beta blocker medication for the rest of her life. Because she is an athlete and has a slow heart rate, she may not tolerate this and may need a pacemaker as well.
Once she receives the surgery, Gia will need to pass a stress test in order to return to sports. The good news is she will be able to play—as long as we protect the device and it doesn’t break on impact. We will need to customize some sort of protective vest for her, because this girl lives to be on a ball field! 💪🥎
🙏 If you would like to support Gia and her family during this time, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help with medical expenses and recovery needs. Any amount is deeply appreciated as we rally around Gia and her family.
