On any given day you can walk into this gym and see mothers doing things that most of the population are unwilling to. You will see them lifting, pushing, pulling, moving objects and themselves in ways that are objectively impressive. You will see expressions of physical and mental strength in a tangible way, at times in ways you’ve never seen before.
But, if the gym was all you saw of these mothers, you would only be seeing a fraction of their truest expression of strength.
Their truest form or strength is not reflected only in them.
You will see its most authentic form outside these doors.
You will see it in their daughters, when they know their worth. When take on challenges they are told they can’t accomplish, and when they break barriers and retain their grace afterward.
You see it in their sons, when they open a door for you, and reach their hand out to one of your children who’s fallen. When they can aggressively fight to win, but hug their mothers after.
You will see these mother’s strength reflected in their greatest achievements, the children they are molding, caring for, and loving. You will see it every time you watch one of them running to get their child to class on time, only to turn around and work to provide for them. You will see it every time you see a bow in brushed hair, or hear a mother’s voice over the crowd after a home run.
But most of us will never see hardest parts. The parts you only know if you have felt them for yourself. The talks after a heartbreak or lost game. The strength that can only be passed through comfort and safety. The parts that are uniquely Mom.
Today is for our mothers, and the mothers around us. The ones who make it our day every other day of the year.
We celebrate you and your strength, in every form.
