Welcome to the Hudson Valley Men's Amateur Baseball League (HVMSBL). The league was established in 1990, and is affiliated with MSBL National, a national organization with 325 local affiliates, 3,200 teams and 45,000 members who play organized amateur baseball in local leagues, regional and national tournaments. The league has the friendliest player and manager rules with a high quality level of
baseball competition, comradery and fair play anywhere in the Hudson Valley. The 45+ division which plays Saturday mornings and the 35+ division which plays weeknights.. In 2024, the league is comprised of a total of 17 teams. Games are played at the some of the best venues in the Hudson Valley. The league is always seeking new teams and individual players. Should you wish to enter a full-team or would like help identifying a team to play on, simply email the league here and we'll help identify teams that need players. All skill levels welcome. Considering playing - here are some quick answers to your initial questions:
Cost - we have the lowest costs to play baseball and don't expect you to go out and get sponsored. The people that run the league are volunteers - we don't profit off from the league, we have taken on the leadership roles simply to promote better baseball. We'd rather spend money on the best fields, umpires and baseballs. Dues for the full season are approximately $ 350.00 per player. Aluminum or Wood - we're purists, wood! Leave the aluminum at home. Level of Ball - though we do have some players that played baseball in college, most only played on their high school or local leagues, while some never have. You may have some reformed softball players. Most of the pitchers throw from 60-80 mph, and while we may have a few hitting the mid-80's, oddly enough many in the league hit the straight stuff. Try Outs - we will do our best to get everyone that wants to play onto a team. While we are always looking to expand and grow teams, we'd much rather ensure teams have enough ball players. Missed the pre-season workouts? That's okay, the league will do our best to get you onto a team. Have a friend that wants to play with you? We'll make that happen! Length of Season - number of games - the 35+ division typically plays an 18-game schedule and playoffs, while the 45+ division plays a 18 game season plus playoffs. Where in the Hudson Valley do we play? Though Dutchess County is the center of our playing universe, we have fields in Orange and Putnam counties as well. Based upon where you reside, you may be looking at driving 10-45 minutes to the fields. Starting in 2016, most teams will have a home field they'll be assigned to and will play 40-50% of their games there. You have a choice of where to play in the Hudson Valley, but there's only one MSBL league that looks out for you as a league. MSBL rules are player friendly (no collision rules, courtesy runners for those with bad legs/injuries); we all have to work tomorrow. A national set of uniform rules provides for consistency.
