The Annual Fly Tying Symposium will be held at the Penobscot County Conservation Association clubhouse (570 N Main St, Brewer) on Sunday, December 14, 2025 Doors will open to the public from 10 am - 4 pm. Tyers can arrive to set up at 9 am.
Tyers should bring extension cords and lights if needed. Selling their flies is certainly permitted but we would like folks to be tying too. Coffee and doughnuts will be available, donations accepted.

If you are interested in having a tyer’s table or ½ table, please email Don Corey at [email protected] or call/text him at (207)478-3173. You don't need to be a commercial/professional tyer to participate. Also, if you know someone that might be interested in having a table, have them contact Don Corey.

There is no cost for the public or for the tyers. This is always a fun club event, stop by and check it out!

If you’ve always wanted to learn to tie flies, now’s your chance! 🧵 ✂️ 🐛

Come join us at Marsh Island Brewing Company on Sunday, March 23rd from 1-3pm to tie some flies with Megan Hess of BeadHead Fishing Company. Megan will be teaching new tiers about the tools, materials, and the fly tying process needed to tie some beginner, but deadly effective, flies!

Limited to 10 spots to be able to accommodate having enough vices for beginners to use! No experience or supplies necessary!

✍️ Must sign up on Google forms sheet in the bio and contact Don (207-299-6336 or Venmo -Corey-7) to pay and solidify your seat. The total price per participant is $10 for the tying materials to learn the patterns.

Bobbins and Brews! Come join us at Bangor Beer Company on Sunday, February 23rd from 1-3pm to tie some flies with Kevin McKay of Maine Fishing Adventures. Kevin be projecting the fly tying process on the TV showing everyone the steps to some musky flies. You will need to bring your own tools including vice, bobbin, scissors, and thread (recommended: Fly Master Plus 210). Table top vices will work best. Huge thank you to for allowing me to come teach about caddisflies. We worked through four patterns that showed different ways of fishing caddis throughout their life cycle - and finished off with a little contest of who could create the most unique fly with scrap materials left on the table. I had a blast tying with such a great group of people today! 🐛 🍺

Don will be projecting the fly tying process on the TV showing everyone the steps to two patterns, a twisted bu**er and a veiled egg. You will need to bring your own tools including vice, bobbin, scissors, and thread. Table top vices will work best. Don recommends thread size 8/0 or 6/0 white for egg and 6/0 black for Bu**er. Come join us at Orono Brewing Company (Orono Taproom) on Wednesday, January 31st from 7-9pm to tie some dry flies, the beloved Elk Hair Caddis and an irresistible Klinkhammer, with Megan Hess of BeadHead Fishing Company. Megan be projecting the fly tying process on the TV in the mezzanine (note: there is a flight of stairs to get to tying location), showing everyone the steps. You will need to bring your own tools including vice, bobbin, scissors, and thread. Table top vices will work best. Megan recommends black 8/0 or smaller thread for tying these patterns. As always, extra materials to tie additional flies at home will be available for purchase at the brewery from Don Corey of our beloved local fly shop, Annika Rod and Fly. Not only do we thank Orono Brewing Company for hosting the event but they will be offering $5 pints for participants … And it’s burger night!
