Pool play complete. 3-0 and headed into bracket play as the #3 seed at the Ohio Blast Father’s Day Tournament!

We opened the weekend with a statement win over The Lightning, the same team that handed us two losses earlier this season. After falling behind early, the bats exploded for seven runs in the second inning to take control for good in a 7-2 victory. Kyleigh Hall delivered the big hit with a 3-RBI double, while Madison O was dominant in the circle with seven strikeouts.

Game two against B&B Fastpitch was a battle from start to finish. We jumped out early and held on for a 3-2 win behind strong pitching from Ireland O’Hara and Kailee Reynolds. The game ended with one of the best defensive plays of the weekend as Kyleigh Hall fired a throw to Izzie Slifka, who applied the tag to cut down the lead runner and seal the win.

We wrapped up pool play with an 11-6 victory over Pittsburgh Power. Kailee Reynolds got us rolling immediately with a first inning 3-run homer, and the offense never slowed down, piling up 14 hits on the day. Kyleigh Hall stayed hot at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Izzie Slifka, Gianna Morales, Elizabeth Jernigan, and Kaelyn Castle all contributed multiple big hits.

Bracket play starts tomorrow at 9:30.

Congratulations to Payton Kobialka and the her Laurel Spartan softball team for earning their first ever PIAA State AA Championship title today! We are so unbelievably proud of you! Enjoy that ice cream!

This Friday, our girls head to the Springfield Sports Complex in New Middletown for the Ohio Blast Father’s Day Tournament!

We open pool play Friday morning with a rematch against The Lightning 16U — a team we faced twice during the T-Town Showdown a few weeks ago — followed immediately by a matchup with B&B Fastpitch. Pool play wraps up Saturday against Pittsburgh Power 16U before bracket play begins Sunday.

All games will be played at Springfield Sports Complex, 11335 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Rd, New Middletown, OH 44442. Be sure to bring cash for gate admission and concessions, and bring plenty of energy to cheer on our Thunder girls all weekend long!

Wishing Payton Kobialka and her Laurel HS teammates all the best of luck, they advance to the PIAA State AA Softball Championship Game, playing at Penn State University on Friday, June 12 at 11AM!

Weekend recap from the Perfect Storm Tournament:

We ended pool play with an impressive win over the B2 Bulls, and with four teams in our bracket finishing 1-2, seeding came down to run differential, as we earned the #2 seed heading into Sunday’s bracket play.

We fell short against a tough Lady Dukes squad after a hard-fought battle. They opened with a solo home run and a double off the fence, but our girls answered with an explosive six-run first inning. The Lady Dukes responded with six runs of their own in the second, capitalizing on a few errors and well-executed small ball, then added three more in the third to take a 10-6 lead.

In the final inning we loaded the bases late and pushed across two more runs, but couldn’t complete the comeback, making this year’s Thunder Elite Perfect Storm tournament a little bit less than perfect for our team.

We’re back at it this weekend at the Ohio Blast Father’s Day Tournament this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We closed out our Saturday at Brookfield Community Park with a 6-3 win over B2 Bulls - Vitale 15U!

We got the bats going early with a big double from Kaelyn Castle to put us on the board in the first. After the Bulls tied things up, we answered right back in the second with patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning to regain the lead. Kyleigh Hall added an RBI single, and we never looked back.

A huge third inning helped us pull away, highlighted by a clutch RBI double from Kailee Reynolds that brought home three runs. Our pitching staff did a great job keeping the momentum on our side, and our defense came through with a big double play behind them.

Proud of the way this team battled all game long, worked counts, and stayed locked in from start to finish. Next up: Bracket Play Sunday!
