I
With sadness and condolences I’d like to note this weekend tallied 259 wrecks in Winnebago County including 1 fatality and 71 injured during a 131 car pileup on Highway 41 near G. While most of us will remember this as a footnote in the course of our lives, please take a moment to reflect on the wellbeing of those who were indelibly marked by the events of Sunday February 24th 2019. Each pin represents a defining moment in a family’s life regardless of whether it’s a car in a ditch, a totaled vehicle, or the loss of life. The difference being the degree of change, grief, and tragedy involved. Not one of the people behind those pins thought their lives would be impacted when they started their day. Now they cope, manage, or pick up the pieces of their lives.
There are so many resources available to gauge the condition of the roads between point A and point B, all you need to do is heed their warnings. Are you the impatient guy tailgating and passing other traffic? Are you in denial that you can actually stop thousands of pounds in 15 feet on glare ice? Can you see far enough ahead for the speed you are going? Are all my lights on? Does your work absolutely require you to be there? Ask yourself whether this trip is worth the risk and continuously assess the conditions versus your driving. We present this information to help you make your own decision. Please be patient and considerate about drivers who choose to keep it safe otherwise you’ll blink and be one those pins, or worse, take someone with you.
