This is an interesting exercise.

First scenario: committed to getting off the shot at the cost of getting shot himself.
Second scenario: although it looked like the assailant actor has slowed down OR equipment failure that gave the other person time to react differently.

Neither is necessarily wrong but both have their own risks. Not all situation requires violent response leading to violent outcome.

It's been a while but we're getting back into it.
To open it up: Getting my uncle ,the man that allowed me to be here and pursue my passion back into shooting after more than 20 years and getting his hand on an AK variant for more than 60 years since he left his military service for the South Vietnamese Army as an infantry officer.
60+ years ago, the training was different and he is getting a first hand update.

While I did not have an M60 available, reintroducing him to the ar15/m16 variant, 1911 platform, and AK (even though he didn't know it at the time) must have brought back some memories for him.
