HAPPY SUMMIT DAY!

The Summit opened 48 years ago today on November 7, 1975 as a sports and entertainment arena at Greenway Plaza. The Who performed the first concert there on 11/20/75. This building was home to the Houston Rockets of the NBA from 1975-2003. The WNBA’s Houston Comets, the minor league hockey Houston Aeros, soccer’s Houston Hotshots, and arena football’s Houston Thunderbears all called The Summit home. The list of concerts and other entertainment events goes on and on. The Summit was one of the premiere venues in Houston until being replaced in 2003 by the Toyota Center in downtown. It became the Compaq Center in 1998 and was renovated to become the home of Lakewood Church in 2005.
