Preparing for our 36th Season!

We play hard, we have a blast, we make friends, and we create memories. We are always looking for good people who are looking for exactly that. We've been around a while, and hope to be around a while more.

As long as we have endured, may we never take a single day or season for granted. May we always be thankful for every player, every family, every game, and every season, and see them for the true gifts and blessings that they all are.

And lastly, may we always express our gratitude for all of the wonderful people who have helped us along the way. May we always strive to do our part for the game, for the league, and for others, and may we always strive to create more opportunities for more people and more teams.

This torch was passed to us long ago, and it is one we take very seriously to this day. May we keep that torch burning, as even the smallest candle can enlighten the most extreme darkness.

Today, it is the stuff of legend.

But in 1971, lacrosse burst into Texas in an auspicious way. Dr. Ralph O'Connor, who would be recognized as the Father of Texas Lacrosse, arranged a game at the Astrodome between Johns Hopkins and Navy in what some called the game for the mythical national championship. The game drew 20-25,00 fans. It is likely no coincidence that the NCAA instituted an annual men's lacrosse championship tournament soon thereafter.

Dr. O'Connor was a joy to talk to about the early days of lacrosse in Texas. He founded the Houston LC that helped trigger the SWLA. He was devoted to his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University, and the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center at JHU is named for him, as is the lacrosse field at Rice University. For many years he provided fields for teams in Houston.

Almost everyone that has played lacrosse in this city owes some debt of gratitude to this man. They now know his name!
