Rock Steady Boxing North Houston Our Mission: To empower people to fight for their battle against Parkinson’s In our gym, exercises are largely adapted from boxing drills.

Rock Steady Boxing helps people maintain their physical independence, improve their quality of life and restore confidence and dignity while we wait for a cure. RSB empowers people with Parkinson's to "fight back.”

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative movement disorder which can cause deterioration of motor skills, balance, speech and sensory function. The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation estimates there are more than 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and more than 60,000 people are diagnosed each year. Rock Steady Boxing is the first gym in the country dedicated to the fight against Parkinson’s. Boxers condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength to defend against and overcome opponents. At RSB, Parkinson’s disease is the opponent. Exercises vary in purpose and form but share one common trait: they are rigorous and intended to extend the perceived capabilities of the participant. Various studies in the 1980s and 1990s supported the notion that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living. More recent studies, most notably at Cleveland Clinic, focus on the concept of intense “forced” exercise, and have begun to suggest that certain kinds of exercise may be neuro-protective, i.e., actually slowing disease progression. Our clients attest, and academic institutions, such as University of Indianapolis and Butler University, are reporting and documenting the improved quality of life among our boxers. Discovery of a cure may be many years away but in the last seven years, there is evidence that progress is made in all stages of the disease by those participating in the RSB program. Call today to schedule an appointment to visit the gym, speak privately with a Coach, or watch a class in action. Please consult your physician before starting any exercise program. To all friends and family of North Houston Rock Steady Boxing,

Houston is one of seven cities currently hosting a MJF Run/Walk Fundraiser. This is year two for Houston and it is in a much more convenient location (the Woodlands) so hopefully we can get a nice turnout from our new team: North Houston Rock Solid Runners. 100% of the funds raised during the event will go directly to fund Parkinson research.

You can support this fundraiser in several ways. First, you can register for the event at https://give.michaeljfox.org/north-houston-rock-solid-runners and join as a member of our North Houston Rock Solid Runners team.

Second, if you can't participate, you can make a donation to our team.

And finally, you can seek donations from your friends and families as an individual fundraiser (click on your member button to get to your individual fundraising page). Please feel free to personalize this page. These donations can earn you prizes and any thing you raise will also be added to our team total as well.

All information for this event can be found at: https://give.michaeljfox.org/event/2026-houston-run-walk/e753018 #

We look forward to having as many of you as possible on our team. Some of us will walk a few feet and others may attempt the full 5k. Regardless, we hope many of you will join the team and join us on November 7.

Please contact Nettie Johnson or Kurt Huneke if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance for participating and SEE YOU AT THE GYM,

Marilyn
