The foundation to every ice hockey player is skating and we are excited to announce a new partnership to one of the organizations in Houston who teach the skating fundamentals and high level training, Memorial Fsc Houston, as they join Hockey Day In Houston 2027 as a committee member in efforts to grow ice skating, figure skating, and all ice sports in Houston.

Memorial Figure Skating Club of Houston (MFSCH) is a member club of U.S. Figure Skating , the national governing body for the sport. Much like a hockey club, MFSCH provides athletes with a competitive affiliation, development opportunities, events, and—perhaps most importantly—a community. Membership through a U.S. Figure Skating home club also provides skaters access to sanctioned test sessions, competitions, performances, and other opportunities within the sport.

MFSCH is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization dedicated to fostering figure skating and creating opportunities for skaters of all ages and levels to participate, develop, compete, and achieve. The Club brings together a thriving community of skaters, families, coaches, officials, and volunteers and hosts test sessions, competitions, exhibitions, ice shows, athlete recognition events, and social activities.

Figure skating encompasses many different disciplines and competitive pathways. Our members participate in Singles, Pairs, Ice Dance, Solo Dance, Theatre on Ice, Showcase, High School and Collegiate skating, Adult skating, Learn to Skate programs, and recreational skating. Some skate simply for the joy of the sport, while others pursue regional, national, international, and Team USA opportunities.

In short, MFSCH is the organizational home that connects Memorial area figure skaters to U.S. Figure Skating, competitive opportunities, and one another.

The Hockey Day In Houston Inaugural Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, November 6th at Pearland Golf Club!

If you are a hockey fan or a golfer, here is why the event was established:

For the past 2 years The Howe Foundation has made a financial contribution to hockey in Houston. These funds were used to help provide for scholarships and new opportunities for hockey organizations in Houston. We never thought we would have had the distinguished honor to receive such a contribution.

For 2027, although the match has been passed on to another city, we will continue work with The Howe Foundation as the Houston Hockey Slapshot Scholarship will continue to honor The Howe Foundation mission while showcasing the legacy of Gordie and Colleen Howe.

Events like the Hockey Day In Houston Inaugural Golf Tournament help raise additional funds to further make an impact to hockey and ice sports in Houston as the events are all part of an international non-profit of Hockey Players in Business - HPIB.

Meet co-chair, Lance Rosenberg who originated the idea of Hockey Day In Houston at Saint Arnold Brewing Company and brought a team of hockey passionate volunteers together to implement the event.

Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Lance worked 10+ years for the Philadelphia Flyers in their community ice rinks and fan development, was a business and team consultant for the
KHL (Russia) expansion team, HC Admiral Vladivostok before moving to Houston. Lance returned to working around hockey and live events in St. Louis where he and TC Lewis met through USA Hockey as TC awarded Lance's facility Tier 1 16u and 18u USA Hockey Nationals.

During his time working for the Philadelphia Flyersers, Lance served as the emergency goalie for the Flyers and Philadelphia Phantoms, including dressing in games with the Phantoms and nearly getting the call in an NHL game. During that time committee member, Jeff Smith of Giant Development Hockey, was currently playing for the Phantoms. Lance also would play some games with the Philadelphia Flyers Alumni Association alongside with co-chair Michel Petit, whom he would also coach against in youth hockey. Lance also would work closely with co-chairs Mary and Ian Adler in a variety of roles with the Flyers.

Lance is a USA Hockey level 5, Master level coach, has coached tier 1 and tier 2 hockey, served as the coach in chief of 2 youth hockey organizations and club president for 1, served on the Atlantic District Board for youth and adult hockey development, and implemented and coached the 1st cross-ice ADM program in the district, a program that saw more than half of the 28 players go on to play NCAA Division 1 or professional hockey, including the NHL.

Since returning to Houston, Hockey Players in Business - HPIB
reached out to Lance about establishing a Houston chapter which created the non-profit foundation to implement events like
Hockey Day In Houston 2027 and the Hockey Day In Houston Inaugural Golf Tournament and to create new ways for adult hockey players and fans to be teammates on and off the ice. That's when Lance reconnected with co-chairs Ryan Brooks and Marc Tushnet, whom he played adult hockey with in his 1st Houston stint. Lance, now sits on Hockey Players in Business - HPIB where he is a liaison for events.

Through the re-connections and new connections, Lance currently is the head coach of the STARskaters Hellhounds Sled Hockey where committee members Claudia Brown and Shaun Hopkins assist and he assists Jeff Smith with the 16u AA Houston Junior Aeros Hockey Association.

What's Lance's favorite part of Hockey Day In Houston? "It's the excitement and friendship committee members share or the amazement that the attendees display at the event. We've been fortunate to make a community impact by sharing hockey connections and experiences to make a contribution back to Houston whether it is an academic scholarship, see programs grow, or be able to showcase their hockey fandom for whatever team they support; but when you add the joy it brings the alumni when they come back to town, you feed off that energy and want to do more to not only showcase why hockey is the greatest sport but to grow hockey and ice sports in Houston so there can be more rinks, more ice skaters, more hockey players, and more fans of the game! We hope that this is just the beginning!"

A person who exemplifies the term hockey volunteer is Hockey Day In Houston 2027 Co-Chair, TC Lewis, a person who needs little introduction to the Houston hockey scene. As the current General manager of Aerodrome Ice Skating Complex and oversight of operations at Bellerive Ice Skating Complex and the soon to open Deep South Ice and Sports Complex.

Originally from upstate NY, TC was very active coaching youth hockey before taking a job in Houston as Hockey Director at the Aerodrome Sugar Land in the late 1990’s and is a current USA Hockey Level 5, Master Level, coach

Locally, TC sits on the board of directors for the Houston Ice Hockey Officials Association, Houston Junior Aeros Hockey Association , HTX Storm Girls Hockey and STARskaters Hellhounds Sled Hockey while also being a founding member of the Houston Chapter of Hockey Players in Business - HPIB.

Outside of Houston, TC sits on the USA Hockey board serving as VP of the Junior Council, Texas Amateur Hockey Association’s President of the Adult Section, US Ice Rinks Association where he was a past President, and USA Hockey Foundation. In the past, TC served as the Rocky Mountain District of USA Hockey as District Director for over 20 years and volunteered in many roles for the Houston Aeros of the IHL and AHL.

TC has also served as Team Manager for USA Hockey for international tournaments with the National Development Teams.

TC’s favorite part of Hockey Day In Houston is simple, “It’s watching the majority of the hockey and skating communities in Houston come together to grow the game and ice skating. You don’t find that in most markets!”

“Houston Is A Hockey Town!” said TC. “People move from all over the world to Houston, and it is through hockey that welcomes them to town. Yes, Houston has a hockey legacy, but it’s the volunteers that have been pushing the game forward for the last 14 years that we haven’t had pro-hockey and that creates a small town feeling in a major city.”

Today we say thank you to co-chairs Ian and Mary Adler who serve as PR and Marketing chairs. Although they have relocated from Houston after the 2nd Hockey Day In Houston, they remain heavily involved in the event as it brought back their passion of working in live events and sports.

Mary, who is from the Philadelphia suburbs met Ian, who was born in Atlanta, but grew up playing hockey in Houston while being associated with the IHL Aeros, while working at the Wells Fargo Center and Philadelphia Flyers. After learning about the potential hockey event from a former work colleague, Mary and Ian decided to run it back to the days in entertainment and help create the "Block Party" feel, similar to what you experience in NHL markets.

Being fans of the game with deep roots to hockey in Houston, Mary and Ian were amazed to see all the jerseys in the crowd the inaugural year. As the lines grew just to buy a b**r, to take a picture on the Zamboni, or having to add additional sessions for street hockey clinics, it brought back memories of promoting Philadelphia Flyers playoff games but this time being a volunteer and with a team from various backgrounds. Immediately they both saw that Houston Is a Hockey Town!

Mary states "Hockey in Houston has made a large city feel smaller. It doesn’t matter where you’re “originally” from, we have seen hockey unite locals and transplants alike. " and for Ian "As a hockey fan and Houstonian, I loved the idea of promoting hockey in Houston. It’s also a really fun team to be part of."

We thank Ian and Mary for their continued efforts working with the media and coming up with new ideas.

Houston will always be a hockey town to them!
