Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
HOUSTON AREA CO****LE LEAGUE (www.bagsinholes.com)
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Co****leTossers/
1) What is Co****le and how is it played? Co****le is a game in which small bags filled with dried corn (or similar filling) are tossed at a target consisting of an inclined wooden platform with a hole at one end. See http://www.bagsinholes.com/ for official rules
.
2) When and where will league be played? We are playing every Monday night at Spring Valley Golf and Disc Golf. http://www.springvalleygolfanddiscgolf.com/ League starts Monday, April 3rd and play will begin at 6:00 PM each Monday.
3) Will I play singles or doubles in league play? We plan on playing “random draw doubles” which means you will be randomly paired with a partner for a best 2 of 3 game series. Of course if bags and boards aren’t being used you should feel free to play/practice as much as you’d like.
4) Is this a SOCIAL or a COMPETITIVE league? We hope it is BOTH social AND competitive. We already have some folks in the league who play the game very well but we also expect “newbies” will feel right at home. The random draw doubles format should ensure the league is both fun and competitive!
5) How will league scoring work? A match will consist of 3 games (each game to 21 points). One league point per player will be awarded for each win and a bonus point will be awarded to each player on the winning team. Additionally, if one team wins the first two games the third game will still be played to:
A) give the losing team a chance to earn a point
B) give the winning team a chance to earn yet another point
The most points a person can win per series is 4 points, or a total of 8 points per league night. The league admins will keep a weekly score total for all players. If you play all 8 weeks we will drop your 2 lowest scores, or if you happen to miss a couple weeks we will tally the 6 weeks you participated.
6) Is the league COED? ABSOLUTELY! All folks are welcomed!
7) Is there an entry fee for league play? Yes. There is a $25 fee per 8 week session. NOTE, this is a one-time fee that covers all 8 weeks of play. $20 to Payout, $2 to Championships, $2 to Spring Valley (maintenance/electric), 1$ to Admin.
8) What are the League participation rules? Do I have to play all 8 weeks to qualify for payout? Do I have to play all 8 weeks to qualify to Championships? You are allowed 2 drops per 8 week session (6 total per session required) for league payout. 50% participation required to qualify to end of session Championships.
9) What are the End of Session Championships? At the end of the 8 week league session, we will have Doubles Championship (9/18) and an Overall Championship (9/25).
10) This is an outdoor league. What do I do if it is raining or has rained? The league admins will make a decision by 4:00 PM each Monday and will post on our page and www.bagsinholes.com if there is a rainout.
11) How many 8-week sessions will there be? We are planning three 8 week sessions. Session I (4/3-5/22). Session II (5/29-7/17). Session III (7/24-9/11).
12) Can I bring my own equipment? YES. We should have enough boards and bags to accommodate a good-sized league, but if you have your boards with you and they are needed (and they meet ACO criteria) that’d be better than not having enough! As far as your bags go, you can definitely use your own bags BUT they must meet ACO guidelines for size and weight. Those guidelines can be found at www.bagsinholes.com under the “Official Co****le Rules” tab.
13) Can I bring my own refreshments? Does Spring Valley sell drinks/beer? There will be NO OUTSIDE alcohol allowed. BUT Spring Valley has a good selection of beer (and soft drinks and water) for sale for your enjoyment.
14) What should I do if I have a scoring question or discrepancy during league play? The official co****le rules are posted on www.bagsinholes.com so you may try to resolve the issue yourself first. Otherwise you should immediately stop play and find one of the league moderators (Gary Kowis or Mark Smith). Just remember, we are all there to have a good time!
15) My question isn’t answered here, what do I do? Please visit www.bagsinholes.com and use the “contact us” tab to send an email to us with your question.
