Back in 2006, three students at Rice University had big dreams of performing in a competitive dance team celebrating the style and tradition of Bhangra - a traditional folk dance originating in the state of Punjab that celebrates the arrival of spring and everyday Punjabi culture. So, they put their hearts and souls into the creation of just that, and Rice Bhangra was born...

Rice's premier South Asian dance team that performs and competes in and around Houston, Texas, and beyond. Bhangra has allowed us to express ourselves through dance, to immerse ourselves in our culture, and to gain a greater sense of community as we continue to grow as a team. We aim to display bhangra in its purest, most traditional form, while still incorporating a modern twist into our performance. We hope to have many lively and energetic performances for you to see! Rice Bhangra also performs at weddings, sangeets, and various cultural events. Good Morning!

Rice Bhangra’s Spring 2022 Workshops and Tryouts are next Saturday 9/19 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and on Sunday 9/20 from 12 pm to 2 pm CDT at Duncan Library!

Workshop is on 9/19 and tryouts are on 9/20. At workshop, we will be learning a segment of choreography! No dance experience is necessary for workshops/joining the team!

Similarly to Fall 2021 tryouts, if you are not able to tryout on Sunday 9/20, you may send in a video of you dancing the tryout!

Tryout videos will be due Sunday 9/20 by 11:59 pm CDT. We will post the tryout video soon!

We look forward to seeing y’all next Saturday and Sunday!

Rice Bhangra’s workshops and tryouts are this Saturday 9/11 and Sunday 9/12 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm CDT at the Dance Theatre (located at the Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center)! Introducing our second E-Heights guest... Rice Bhangra!

Rice Bhangra is Rice University’s premier co-ed competitive Bhangra team. Since 2006, they’ve been bringing the beauty of Bhangra to Houston, Texas and showcasing their skills nationwide. This year, they’ve come together from across the country to share an unconventional, yet exciting performance for us to enjoy.

Reminder that tryout videos are due tonight at 11:59 PM CST! Below are the instructions again:
1. Practice!
2. Record videos of yourself performing the workshop choreography with your whole body visible and audible music.
3. We are not expecting perfection! The most important things we are looking for are good energy, confidence, and smiles!
4. Email your video(s) (2 max) to [email protected] by the deadline.
