If you know all things are possible, why is that after you have prayed and done the work, you stop believing?

Adolescence can be overwhelming for any girl, but for those with layered cultural identities, the pressure to define who they are—and who they are not—can quietly erode their peace. The constant balancing act between different worlds often leads to stress, self-doubt, and emotional fatigue. Her mental health deserves the same attention as her academic goals, social life, and future dreams.

Protecting her peace begins with understanding how identity and well-being are inseparable. When she is supported in exploring all parts of herself without judgment, she develops the inner security to stand confidently in every space. This foundation helps her manage the very real pressures of adolescence while still honoring her full identity.

Parents, caregivers, and educators play an essential role in nurturing this kind of stability. Through intentional conversations, identity-affirming routines, and access to culturally responsive mental-health resources, adults can help her transform uncertainty into strength. When we make space for her voice, her story becomes a source of resilience instead of confusion.

No girl should feel that peace comes from silence or conformity. Her sense of belonging is built through connection, advocacy, and unwavering affirmation. Read my latest blog, Protecting Her Peace: Mixed Girls and Mental Health in Adolescence, to discover evidence-based strategies that strengthen identity and well-being.

Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t just a calendar reminder — it’s a powerful invitation to know more, feel more, and proudly carry forward the stories that make us. From September 15 to October 15, we honor the roots, the journeys, and the voices of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Why these dates matter:

September 15 marks the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua: https://www.census.gov/newsroom/facts-for-features/2025/hispanic-heritage-month.html

Mexico’s independence follows on the 16th; Chile’s on the 18th: same Census page above.

What began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson was expanded by Congress in 1988 into a full 30-day observance from September 15 through October 15 so that the celebration, education, and recognition could breathe more deeply: https://www.census.gov/newsroom/facts-for-features/2025/hispanic-heritage-month.html

At Dear Mixed Girl®, we believe heritage is more than what we inherit — it’s what we live, what we build, how we love, how we speak, and how we lift others up. To every young woman with blended roots: you are the harvest of love and strength from those who came before you. Your culture is not a footnote but a foundation. Your identity is not a question but a force.

Let’s use this month to:

Learn something new: a story from your family, a song in your native tongue, a hero from your country’s history.

Share your pride: show others what Hispanic heritage means to you.

Embrace your full power: the strength in your heritage gives you permission to shine, to lead, to heal — for yourself, for your community.

Here’s another deep dive resource: the U.S. Census Bureau’s “National Hispanic Heritage Month: 2025”, which walks through the timeline, demographics, and significance of this observance: https://www.census.gov/newsroom/facts-for-features/2025/hispanic-heritage-month.html

💛 To every mixed-heritage girl reading this: you belong. You are seen. You are powerful. Your story adds richness to our shared tapestry. Let’s celebrate every chapter — past, present, and yet unwritten.

August 23: International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition

Today, UNESCO invites us to pause and remember a pivotal moment in human history—the uprising that began on the night of August 22–23, 1791, in Saint-Domingue (now Haiti)—a catalyst that ignited the fight to end the transatlantic slave trade.

Learn more here: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/slave-trade-remembrance

As we reflect, let's honor both the victims and the courageous freedom fighters who stood against oppression. Their resilience lights the way for justice, equality, and human dignity.

“Let us remember so that we may build more just societies.” — UNESCO

Today, may we recommit to abolishing every form of human exploitation and racism that remains in our world.
