FORMAL LEGAL NOTICE AND DEMAND FOR RETRACTION AND CORRECTIVE STATEMENT
DATE: August 12, 2026
TO: Executive Board and Public Relations Department, American Women’s Football League (AWFL)
FROM: Legal Representation for the Houston Doom and the United States Premier Women’s Football League (USPWFL)
SUBJECT: Formal Refutation, Cease and Desist, and Demand for Immediate Correction Regarding False Claims of Team Acquisition
I. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE
This document serves as a formal legal notice, refutation, and demand for correction regarding the inaccurate and unauthorized public statements issued by the American Women’s Football League (AWFL) on or about August 12, 2026.
In its recent "League Status Intelligence Update," the AWFL publicly and falsely asserted that it had "acquired the Houston Doom from the USPWFL" and incorrectly placed the Houston Doom organization within its "Gulf Division" for future play. This statement is entirely false, misleading, and legally baseless.
II. STATEMENT OF FACTS AND REFUTATION
Independent Operational Status: The Houston Doom is a franchise organization operating under the lawful authority, scheduling, and jurisdiction of the United States Premier Women’s Football League (USPWFL). At no point has the ownership, management, or controlling stakeholder of the Houston Doom entered into any agreement, contract, or transaction to sell, transfer, or assign the franchise to the AWFL.
Falsity of "Acquisition" Claim: The AWFL’s assertion that it "acquired" the Houston Doom is a complete fabrication without factual or contractual foundation. No purchase agreement exists, and no structural transfer of intellectual property, player contracts, or operational control has taken place.
2027 Season Confirmation: The Houston Doom categorically rejects the AWFL's projection of participation. The Houston Doom will officially return to and compete exclusively within the United States Premier Women’s Football League (USPWFL) for the 2027 season. Any listings, standings, or schedules published by the AWFL featuring the Houston Doom are unauthorized and fraudulent.
III. LEGAL DEMANDS AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
The unauthorized appropriation of the Houston Doom’s name and organizational identity causes immediate and irreparable harm to the commercial reputation, contractual integrity, and goodwill of both the Houston Doom and the USPWFL.
Consequently, the AWFL is hereby demanded to take the following actions within forty-eight (48) hours of receipt of this notice:
Immediate Retraction: Publish a formal, public retraction of the statement claiming the acquisition of the Houston Doom across all official AWFL media channels, press outlets, and websites.
Removal of References: Remove the Houston Doom from all AWFL standings, divisional alignments (including the Gulf Division), and upcoming 2027 promotional schedules.
Cease and Desist: Cease and desist from making any further false representations to the media, players, or public regarding ownership or affiliation rights concerning the Houston Doom or any other USPWFL member franchise.
NOTICE OF RESERVATION OF RIGHTS: Failure to comply with these demands immediately will result in the USPWFL and the Houston Doom pursuing all available legal remedies under state and federal law, including but not limited to claims for tortious interference, deceptive trade practices, and trademark infringement, seeking all available injunctive relief and financial damages.
