Texas Southern Baseball Join The Movement

We are very excited about our 2011-12 roster. This off season recruiting class focused largely on pitching. ( Daniels, Hubbard, Smith ).

Returning pitchers from the 2011 roster are Flores, Starkey, Schuba, and Lasoya. We have added (11) eleven freshman, and (4) four transfers. We will use a combination of rhp and lhp to solidify roles. We will use (5) starters for the season. Three on weekend and two for midweek games. Our de...pth has improved and quality of arms. This year discipline, accountability, durability, and health will d

etermine our destiny. Empasis as always is to command bottom of the stike zone, to induce ground balls and keep hitters off balance by changing speeds. Ultimately we are still trying to evaluate each players pitch. I feel we have an opportunity to have the type of season when we can look back and say we were able to pitch it from the front and back. Emphasis with position players this offseason from a recruiting standpoint was to add depth and replace some key components from last year roster. We feel good about what Hernandez has done for us offensively for three seasons but are working on improving his fielding percentage. Logan, Dilligard and Jackson will be asked to drive in more runs and will hit in the middle of the order. Flenoy was consistent last season offensively and defensively, we will expect him to play a bigger role this year.We will return some key players that were instrumental in 2010 and will help the team run production which led to a disappointing season for us in scoring runs, bb, and stolen bases. Flanagan, Stargell, Bernstine, and Gordaya will give us depth in the infield and outfield. Replacing Jones who drove in over 100 runs in two seasons will be a key factor in our teams success offensively. Our teams speed is our strength which we will rely on for being efficient and executing the short game. It should be exciting to watch the combination of talent we have and plan to use.How effective we are will come down to our discipline and IQ. Our outfield situation proposes a good problem for us because we will interchange and play according to matchups but ultimately consistency and the player thats hot will see more action. We will use a combination of players at third, Hernandez will move back to ss. We will rotate at the catching position where we are four deep, but will use a two man rotation. The fall season will determine the 35 man roster. We are two man deep at each position. It has been a very competitive fall season thus far. We have a lot of questions to be answered like most clubs. This years roster gives us a better chance to compete more so than in the past............
