When we first started looking at Houston as a site for the development of a premier surf destination, we immediately were drawn to Generation Park as a potential location. The site certainly checked all the right boxes – close to airports and downtown, access to infrastructure, killer piece of land. But what sealed the deal was the opportunity to be aligned with their vision to help people live, grow, and thrive in a community that was focused on wellness and creating the ultimate experience for people of all walks of life.
In addition to the offices, industrial buildings, retailers, and apartments it would feature, Generation Park would be home to several world class recreational facilities. From fishing, biking, and running trails to football, soccer, baseball and yes, surfing, the 4,300-acre commercial master-planned community off Beltway 8 in northeast Houston would have it all – and we are excited to be part of it.
Recently, Ryan McCord, president of McCord Development sat down with the Houston Chronical to discuss what’s next for the $12 billion mixed-use campus including our huge man-made surf lagoon. In it, he shares why he believes Generation Park will become something special and why people will want to visit.
“The reason why people will know about it if they're not working or living here will be to come recreate. We expect HTX Surf to be a big demand draw. We have a sports and recreational layer to our planning, including an event venue for weddings and corporate events. When you have people coming to conferences in Houston and ask, "What are we going to do? Are we going to go to the steakhouse tonight? What’s an activity's that’s more for team bonding for business development?”
