GG's Infant Aquatics Academy

GG's Infant Aquatics Academy Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children five and under. At GG's Infant Aquatics I teach kids the "SWIM•Float•SWIM" technique.

I prepare them to learn to survive if they find themselves alone in the water. A little bio about me:

My name is Jennifer Hemenway and I grew up in Texas. I am a certified Infant Aquatics Instructor, and I am the owner of GG’s Infant Aquatics Academy in DFW. I teach in Keller and surrounding areas. I have been around water my entire life. You will often find me at a pool, lake or beach. I raised

my kids to love the water as well. They were taught to swim at a very young age and went on to be competitive swimmers throughout their adolescence. I was very involved in their teams and on their swim boards. One thing that has not changed since my kids were little is that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children five and under. Knowing there are steps you can take in preventing this has motivated me to teach and share these techniques to every child I can. Drowning is preventable. I have trained and logged more than 250 hours of hands-on training from two of the best instructors in the industry. I have taught hundreds of children, 6 months old to 6 yrs, life saving skills. I am certified in Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED and Safety Training for Swim Coaches from American Red Cross. I am so excited to share my passion for water and bring safety and life saving skills to a new generation. Together we can prevent drowning and teach our children to survive, swim and thrive in the water. For more information please email me at [email protected]

Most parents think swim lessons are just about preventing drowning. But research shows toddlers who start swimming early get 88% drowning protection PLUS something unexpected: enhanced brain development. Every stroke and kick creates cross-lateral movement that forces both sides of the brain to work together, literally wiring neural pathways for reading, focus, emotional control, and language skills.

When your child moves through water, they're doing more than learning to float. They're developing better balance, quicker problem-solving abilities, and stronger motor skills than kids who don't swim. The resistance of water challenges their body awareness and posture while building core strength. Studies consistently show early swimmers outperform their peers in cognitive tasks that require bilateral brain coordination.

Here's the hidden gem: floating and breath control naturally teach emotional regulation. When toddlers learn to stay calm in water and control their breathing, they're building real-world skills for handling stress and trying again when things get tough. Early swim lessons leverage your child's natural brain plasticity and lower fear levels, making skill acquisition easier and more confident. You're not just enrolling them in another activity - you're investing in their safety, cognitive development, and emotional resilience all at once.

When I watched their story years ago I looked into these type lessons. Few were offered so I got certified. They inspired me to help save childhood drownings. 💙

Drowning is the LEADING CAUSE of death for children ages 1 to 4 and one of the top causes for older children as well. It happens quickly and silently.

It only takes inches. May is Drowning Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the very real risks around water, especially for children.

Please take a moment to review these important water safety tips:

👀 Always provide constant, active supervision around water

🚫 Never rely on floaties or toys as a substitute for supervision

🏊‍♂️ Enroll children in age appropriate swim lessons

🔒 Secure pools and spas with proper barriers and locked gates

🚫 Put distractions away and stay focused when watching children

🛟 Learn CPR so you can act quickly in an emergency

🚪 Keep bathroom doors closed and toilet lids secured for young children

🌊 Empty buckets, kiddie pools, and containers after each use

Together, we can take simple steps that help prevent tragedies and keep children safe.

I have several moms who follow this influencer distraught over learning her son died in their back yard. They told me her story and I unfortunately hear these stories often.

While I’m not part of ISR, I teach through IAS (Infant Aquatic Survival)—and the techniques are the same. These are survival-based swim lessons designed to give children the skills to save themselves if they ever find themselves in the water alone.

No lesson replaces supervision. Ever. But layers of protection matter—and survival swim skills are one of the most important layers you can give your child.

If you’ve ever thought about swim lessons, let this be your reminder: it’s not about swimming… it’s about survival.

It can happen in an instant. Rental properties with pools do not have the safety measures for your small ones. Make sure the know what to do!
