This memory popped up from 8 years ago!! 💜💜
Adults who overcome their aquaphobia is a life changing accomplishment. HUET training or a similar course is often the main incentive for many adults to commit to swim lessons, who I have worked with, especially here in Houston.
Fortunately, for most, the benefits of learning to swim as an adult are seemingly endless. They span far beyond the initial goal of simply completing a course.
In the short term, it provides a sense of accomplishment for obtaining a certification to satisfy offshore job requirements, as well as the potential for career advancement.
Long term impacts of learning to swim include, improving self confidence and spacial awareness, coordination, strength, and endurance. Learning to swim is also useful as a general safety/life skill during emergencies such as flooding or performing a water rescue. Becoming comfortable in the water typically will reduce anxiety in and around the water as well as provide a more enjoyable/relaxing experience during vacation and water related activities. Swimming is a sport that can be performed individually or with group. Connecting through a new activity is a good way to build new relationships or enjoy leisure time with friends and family. It is also a great option for all ages and skill levels as it is a low impact cardiovascular exercise.
