Bayou Black Tarpons swim team This is a page for the Bayou Black Tarpons swim team. A summer league team in Houma, LA. Trying to give another way to get info out to you guys!

This swim team is open to anyone age 4-18 who is interested in competitive swimming. The age is determined by how old they are on 5/1 of the swimming year. Registration is $55 for the 1st child, $50 for the 2nd, & $45 per child after that. We will assess all new swimmers to determine if they are swim team ready, but here is a guide to go by to help you decide whether to try swim team, or possibly

swim lessons instead:

(Age group is determined by your child's age on May 1st)

6&Under (4-6): Freestyle- swimmer must be able to put face in the water & swim moving arms & legs on the stomach in any manner. The swimmer must be able to breathe independently head up, to the side, or by flipping to the back, & then continue to swim on stomach. The swimmer may stop occasionally. Backstroke- must be able to comfortably swim on back moving arms & legs in some manner. The swimmer may stop occasionally.

8&Under (7-8): Freestyle- must be able to swim and breathe on his/her own with little to no stopping. Backstroke- must be able to swim on back with little to no stopping.

9&Over: Freestyle- swim across pool breathing to the side or head up without stopping. Backstroke- swim across pool without stopping. Breaststroke- general knowledge
Butterfly- general knowledge

If your child meets the above criteria you can give swim team a try. We hold practices 4 days per week. We will instruct the kids in swim team terminology, stroke technique, dives & turns. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Since we are all up watching the weather, I have decided to cancel morning practice as a precaution. I hope everyone is staying safe.

Update: Even though it is currently not raining, we have decided to cancel all practices for the rest of today.

We are currently practicing 14-18u now but are cancelling practice for 6u and 8u. I will update at 5:30 for the 10-12 practice.

We are now 3-0 on the season with our win against Cut Off! We are so proud of how all of our kids swam this weekend. Keep up the great work!

The 8u girls backstroke record was held by Therese Prejean with a time of 22.62 from 6/6/26 was broken by Everly Chauvin with a time of 21.50.

The 8u girls freestyle relay team of Therese Prejean, Allison Landry, Bradley Prejean, and Everly Chauvin broke their own record set last week with a time of 1:23.92. They went 1:22.64.

The 8u girls medley relay team of Bradley Prejean, Allison Landry, Therese Prejean, and Everly Chauvin broke their own record set last week with a time of 1:40.91. They went 1:36.23.

The 12u boys freestyle relay record was held by Chris Dugas, Gavin Erdmann, Cullen Brunet, and Mason Richard with a time of 2:15.53 from 6/16/07. The new record is held by Damian Riecau Normand, Carson Chauvin, Baker Prejean, and Kason Lirette with a time of 2:13.06

The 14u boys butterfly record was held by Kaden Howard with a time of 30.49 from 6/12/21. It was broken by Carson Rauhaus with a time of 30.18.

Congratulations on a great meet yesterday against Bayou Country Club. We are now 2-0 on the season!

We have some team records that were broken yesterday!

The 8u girls backstroke record was held by Claire Ramirez with a time of 22.94 from 6/24/17. It was broken by Therese Prejean with a time of 22.62.

The 8u girls freestyle relay record was held by Morgan Richard, Britany Diefenderfer, Jeanne Harson, and Alyssa Rose Trahan with a time of 1:26.08 from 7/8/06. It was broken by Allison Landry, Therese Prejean, Bradley Prejean, and Everly Chauvin with a time of 1:23.92.

The 8u girls medley relay record was held by Catherine Cobb, Sarah Hanson, Mary Ellen Haydel, and Caroline Daigre with a time of 1:42.91 from 5/19/12. It was broken by Therese Prejean, Allison Landry, Bradley Prejean, and Everly Chauvin with a time of 1:40.91.

We WILL be having the meet today using the gym to house everyone. You can still set up your tents if you would like; however, we will be calling the kids from the gym.

Important update:

Swim team pictures are cancelled for today and rescheduled for Wednesday. We will have regular practice today weather permitting and will use the picture schedule for today on Wednesday.

We will be taking team and individual pictures this Monday from 4:00 until we finish. We will begin lining swimmers up for the team picture at 5:40. Swimmers should wear their team suits. We will not be swimming Monday. I will email the order form in the email I will send out tomorrow.
