Free Throw Shooting is a perfect display of mind, focus and skill combination as the League’s players attempt to score perfect percentages from the “charity stripe” while assisting their teammates with the victory,shooting shots through the net, and advancing their respective team to the next level.
Everyone believes it’s easy to make a basket with no defenders, just 15 feet away from the basket. Our Men’s League foul shooters, will show us who can zone out the opponents badgering and sink all shots without hesitation.
The back to back Men's Championship team;Rec Legends were very well represented throughout the 2015-16 basketball season, as they not only stepped to the line the most frequently -- 101/190, but also achieved the best FT % of the League, shooting 53.2%, as a team.
Sam Henderson of the Rec Legends was atop the league standings for at least the second straight season, while shooting a convincing 80.0 %. Henderson also was declared the Daigle Oil Company Free Throw Champion,during the 2nd Annual All-Star Extravaganza.
Dan Clark whom is also a teammate on the Rec Legend roster was considered the most improved foul shooter of the season. Clark was unable to score from the line in the previous season,with year end 0/1. During the current season, Clark shot a remarkable 7/10 or 70.0%,to achieve this task.
Adam Hogan, who wears the #1 jersey for the Legends, for reasons left unknown,finished second in the HBA Men's League free throw shooting category. Adam finished tied for 3rd in the DOC FT contest, after not even making the cut in the Inaugural event. Hogan improved his foul shooting technique raising his performance from 53.3% to 73.5%. Adam also had 5 games through the 2015-16 season, in which he shot a perfect 100% from the stripe, including the All Star game, where he went 4/4.Adam also set the record for most foul shots attemted in a single game with 10.
Justin Lenentine of the Runner Up squad; Swamp Donkeys was the only player to step to the line and be held scoreless, shooting a dismal 0/6.
Coincidentally, there were just 3 players out of the 42 listed roster entries that never attempted a foul shot through the entire 14 game schedule, whom were all on the same team. The Monstars also shot the fewest foul shots of any team with just 114 chances.
The League as a whole shot 322/ 647 = 49.8 % ,which is considerably lower than last year's numbers of 511/966.
