25 years goes faster than you think. 🇺🇸

It's been 25 years since the 9/11 terror attacks on America. On Friday, the nation will remember those lost on that fateful day and take a moment of silence in their memory.

On this quarter-century anniversary of the attacks, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will add a seventh moment of silence to honor those who have died of illnesses related to their time at or near the World Trade Center site.

On today's episode of interesting creatures seen at the marina... this fella's camouflage did the trick as it was mistaken for a leaf at first. Pictured is the twin-spotted sphinx moth (Smerinthus jamaicensis), a member of the hawk-moth family (Sphingidae).

It features scalloped, mottled brown and grey forewings that provide camouflage when resting on tree bark or weathered surfaces.While hidden in this resting pose, its bright hindwings with signature eyespots remain tucked away until it is disturbed. You may remember a post from earlier in the year of a wing that was found (pictured). That moth wing, we believe belonged to a Polyphemus moth.

Some of our crew was aware of the superstitions regarding bananas on boats, others had no idea. Were you aware and do you follow the no banana on the boat rule? 🍌

Even today, bringing a banana onto a fishing boat is considered terrible luck! Historical sailors fiercely believed bananas were cursed. In reality, ripening bananas released invisible Ethylene gas that caused all the other food on the ship to rot instantly, and the clusters were often filled with deadly, venomous tropical spiders! 🍌🕷️

Happy Labor Day!!! Betty feels the way most of us do about the "unofficial" end of summer. First and foremost, we want to thank our team for their hard work. ❤️ Thank you to our customers for your continued support. A special thank you to our fellow Houghton Lakers working in retail, hospitality, customer service, etc.

We are transitioning into storage season. Storage is available by appointment only. Our last pontoon rental day for the season will be Sunday, September 13. The gas dock will remain open through Sunday, September 20. We hope for a warm and beautiful fall! 🍂
