Do you know the LTV of each student in your school? Here are some ideas for improving this metric...and how to attract and retain more students in your martial arts program. If you know a school owner who needs to hear this, tag them in the comments below.

In this session, we break learning down into small, manageable modules with video-assisted learning that allows students to immediately practice what they learn.

The result?

More practice. Better retention. Learning that can happen 30–50% faster.

Break it down. Learn it. Practice it. Master it.

The Library Is Growing. The Mission Hasn’t Changed.

12 books. 12 resources. One purpose: helping people become better versions of themselves.

When I began writing, I wasn’t interested in simply putting more books on a shelf.

I wanted to create resources people could actually use to think differently, lead more effectively, communicate more clearly, build stronger businesses, manage money more wisely, and ultimately become more intentional about the person they are becoming.

Today, the Black Belt Leadership Library has grown to 12 offerings.

Some focus on leadership.
Some on business.
Some on communication and negotiation.
Some on money, confidence, character, and personal growth.

But there is a common thread running through every one of them:
Mastery is never an accident.

In the martial arts, earning a Black Belt doesn't mean you've arrived. It means you've developed the discipline to keep learning, training, growing, and improving.

Life works much the same way.

You don't have to master everything today.

You simply have to be better today than you were yesterday, and willing to train again tomorrow.

That's what these 12 resources represent to me: not 12 destinations, but 12 different doors into the lifelong pursuit of mastery.

🥋 Always Continue Training.
🥋 Always Continue Growing.
🥋 Always Continue Becoming.

Which area of your life are you working to master right now? Who are you becoming beyond just being a martial artist?

Congratulations to Cade Berryhill, our first ever Ebenezer Award recipient.

Now we are looking for our 2027 recipient.

The Ebenezer Award is the "official Emcee Award" and was created to recognize a young martial artist who truly represents the values of martial arts both on and off the mat.

This is not an award based on rank. You do not have to be a black belt to be nominated.

The award is open to martial artists 18 and under, and there is NO COST to enter and nominate someone.

The 2027 recipient will receive a trophy and a gift basket of goodies, and will be recognized on stage at the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame Banquet.

If you know a young martial artist who deserves to be recognized for their character, dedication, leadership, and the way they represent martial arts, start getting your nominations in for 2027.

Who will be our next Ebenezer Award recipient? Click the link to nominate a student.

Thank you,
Camp Host & Emcee,
Jessie Terry

In this session, we discuss digital discipline and how there is a time to use devices, but also a responsibility not to become overly restrictive or overbearing.

Gen Z learns through their phones. That’s the reality we’re leading in. The goal isn’t to shut it out, but to incorporate it in a way that builds focus, respect, and balance—so it doesn’t become something that dominates attention or replaces presence.

Leadership today requires wisdom, not extremes.

September 11, 2001.

A day that changed our country forever.

Nearly 3,000 lives were lost. Thousands of families were changed forever. And countless people stepped forward to help, not knowing what the next moment would bring.

Today, we remember the people who never made it home.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, military members, and ordinary people who put others before themselves.

We remember the families who continue to carry that loss.

25 years later, we remember.
We honor their lives.
We honor their sacrifice.
And we will never forget.

"Opportunities to help one another are all around us.” — Jim Lundy

Leadership isn’t always about taking the lead. Sometimes it’s simply noticing who needs a hand, an encouraging word, or someone willing to step up.

Look around. The opportunity to make a difference may be closer than you think.

This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the people who spend their days building something bigger than themselves.

The school owners opening their doors.
The instructors staying late to help a student.
The coaches planning the next class.
The mentors who keep showing up, even when nobody sees the work that goes into it.

Because in martial arts, the work isn’t just what happens on the mat.

It’s the early mornings, late nights, phone calls, planning, teaching, cleaning, learning, and countless hours spent helping students become better versions of themselves.

That work matters.

To every martial arts school owner, instructor, and leader putting in the work today—and every other day—we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re proud to be part of this community.

Happy Labor Day from the Hall of Fame.
