Happy Mothers Day to our absolute rock. Watching you become a mom and without missing a beat has been the greatest part of life. We couldn’t do it without you ❤️

Movie & Game Night for some of our girls teams (and Declan) so that parents can have a date night of their own without the kids.

So beyond grateful to have people at the club to put on events like this that truly make a difference 💙

On one of the worst fields I’ve ever coached on, I was so impressed with our 2014 boys for sticking to our identity in an environment that it would have been easy to abandon.

With young players, our style of play shouldn’t be designed to win games. It should be designed to help players develop the qualities that will get them on the field in all of the future environments that they’ll be exposed to - whether that be other clubs, high school, college, etc.

Additionally, it should encourage players to be brave, confident, and not afraid of taking risks. This is an easy thing to say and nearly every coach will agree, but what truly brings it to life is every interaction in training and in games.

Are we truly encouraging them to be brave or is it just something we tell parents and put in a slide deck? How do we react when those risks don’t come off and even negatively impact results? Do we stay true to our beliefs when things get tough or do we change to appease parents and perhaps our own ego?

Youth coaches shouldn’t be judged by results. Everyone knows this but there is consistently a bias towards coaches and teams that win.

At the youngest ages, we challenge all of our coaches to be the 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 rather than the better team. We can’t always control who we coach, but we can develop their qualities, provide them with clarity, and give them an environment that encourages and supports their growth 📈

Amazing week in Kansas City for the final in person meeting of the A License. Feeling motivated, challenged, and excited to continue to apply all of the learning through the course and incredible connections that I’ve made to improve my own players and environment 🤝

Better late than never they say…

Really grateful for the staff that we have and the commitment they show to continual professional development. This was from a coaching education session that we put on in February.

And a massive shoutout to our 2014B Green players for providing a great demo for our coaches 👏

Really enjoyed getting on with Bryan Alcantara and his staff to present on getting training to transfer to the game itself.

Key Word = 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

A clear plan is one thing but does it connect to the way we’re striving for the team to play on the weekend? Are we coaching the individual within the group and planning sessions with individuals in mind or just the team?

The likelihood of transfer improves if we design sessions that are representative but also set the stage for players to solve problems and for us as coaches to guide their attention towards what may impact the way they go about solving those problems both as an individual and collaboratively.

If all of our work from planning to implementation and even reflection isn’t aligned, we’re leaving a lot more to chance than any of us would like to admit.

Grateful again for the opportunity. Also incredibly grateful to be in a club and environment that is okay with being different and sharing what we do to improve standards everywhere to benefit all players, not just the ones in our care 💙

Was privileged and honored to be able to present on Coach & Staff Development with Gary Curneen and Surf Soccer Nation and what it can look like in clubs from before coaches even walk in the door.

Club identity and alignment is crucial to all of our environments, not just for directors and coaches but for players and families as well. People want to know what they are signing up for and feel a part of something bigger than themselves that aligns with their values.

Being open, transparent, and sharing what our clubs stand for, what coaches can expect, and how we can truly support the different journeys of everyone in our care shouldn’t be rare but the expectation.

We can all do better 💙
