Thoroughbred's 12u squad played in their final tournament on the 50-70 field over the weekend before they will move up to the 60-90 field in the fall...and they went out in style, going 4-0 on the weekend against tough competition and scoring 50 runs en route to winning the championship at Big Show. After winning their first two games on Friday night and securing the top seed in the tournament, our 12s squared off against the EB Bombers in a Sunday semi-final game that was likely the most exciting game of the season. After falling behind 5-0 after the first half inning, the 12s showed the resilience and fight that has become their hallmark over this season, roaring back and taking the lead multiple times in a back and forth contest. Down by two in the bottom of the sixth, they were able to get their first two runners aboard when Carter Shacklett stepped to the plate with two outs and hit a missile over the center field fence for a walk off three run homerun, his second homer of the game, igniting the crowd and propelling the team to the championship game against the Delco Outlaws. In an equally nail-biting back and forth game with plenty of offense, the 12s soared to a 15-12 victory to bring the crown back to Horsham. Tallying multiple hits on the weekend were Luke McPeake, Nolan Quinn, Patrick Horne, Xavier Myers, Shacklett, Liam Collins, Cliff Krawchuk, Tucker Sabo, Timmy Hart, and MJ Pitts. In addition to Shacklett's two home runs, the 12s also belted an additional six bombs on the weekend - two from Quinn and one each from Collins, Krawchuk, Hart, and Pitts. The eight homers on the weekend brought the team's season total to an astonishing 55 in 41 games. Defensively, the outfield continued its incredible trend of throwing runners out on the basepaths, with rightfielders Michael Badial and Vinny Lynch each recording outfield assists. Hart led the pitching staff on the weekend, striking out nine batters in 5 1/3 innings of work. The championship weekend brought Thoroughbred's season record to an incredible 30 wins against 11 losses. The team will play its grand finale on Friday night, when it squares off against 643 for the TSE league championship under the lights. Way to go boys! Bring home another trophy!
