This is an image that will last with me forever. Yes, your Hoquiam VRGrizzlies are on Orange, and yes, we WON our last round against the Atomic City Echosapiens, a highly-ranked professional Echo team.

This is Lyle Witt, Grizzly #6, with his arms raised in triumph after taking the last round for Hoquiam. Lyle is my "Bruiser", since there's a combat system in this game, and just LOOK at his stats! He got 38 stuns in seven minutes against the pros, which seriously hampered their ability to score on us.

I am SO proud of our JV Hoquiam athletes: All 10 VRGrizzlies rotated through to share this masterclass with the pros, and their compliments to our kids couldn't have been better. They were so impressed with how much heart and focus and determination our athletes played with, and said we were set for great things.

I couldn't agree more.

Well, Hoquiam seems to be having trouble finding other middle schools that are in our... LEAGUE: Our opponents for tomorrow just weren't able to put a team together.

But do you think that could stop the freight train that is Hoquiam JV Esports? No way! We just went ahead and reached out to VRML (The VR Master League), the professional league for Echo VR, with seasonal prize pools over $10,000, and were lucky enough to find a professional Echo team willing to play with our middle schoolers!

So, tune in tomorrow at 4 PM to watch a collaborative exhibition match between Hoquiam Esports and the Atomic City Echosapiens! We'll share teams and strategies, and you will see a level of virtuosic Echo play you've never even imagined before.

Hoquiam Esports is back, and we are here to change the WORLD. That's right, for 2023, we are bringing you the HEVE League, the world's first middle school VR Esports League, and we're not just playing another middle school for our first match... We're playing the executives of Remio, Inc, the Dutch software company that supplies our metaversity software.

So, tune in to twitch.tv/hoquiamesports TOMORROW, Friday, February 3rd, at 9AM for the first match of our league season! You'll get to see something you've never seen before: Hoquiam 11-13 year olds taking on the literal executive suite, including the CEO, of a major corporation. GO GRIZZLIES!

Hoquiam Esports prides itself on being a BRAVE place, a place where every HSD student can enjoy not just a space to play video games with friends, but a space where EVERYONE is welcomed and accepted. We were very proud to welcome a Hoquiam student who uses a walker, and she did SO WELL in seated Blade and Sorcery! Our mission is to include every Hoquiam student in our Esports adventure, and overcome any boundaries, real or imagined, to giving every student a chance to play and be part of a shared experience.

What an incredible success The Game of Owns has been! This event has brought over SIXTY Hoquiam Middle School students to the Hoquiam Esports Arena, so they can have an educational experience, learning about the art of historical combat in Virtual Reality. Excitement is off the charts, and students are engaged in some serious learning, conversation, and social-emotional growth!
