Tennis can add 9.7 years to your life. (and life to your years!)

A Danish study that followed the leisure activities of people for 25 years. The results showed average life-expectancy gains for various sports compared with the sedentary groups. The results were surprising:

Tennis, 9.7 years
Badminton, 6.2 years (apparently it's big in Denmark!)
Soccer, 4.7 years
Cycling, 3.7 years
Swimming, 3.4 years
Jogging, 3.2 years
Calisthenics, 3.1 years
Health club activities, 1.5 years.

Tennis has three things going for it:
1) It is a three dimensional sport that works different muscles.
2) It's a fun mental challenge.
3) It's a social sport that develops friendships

A few more tennis rules!

A few more tennis rules!

Anyone who follows or plays league tennis knows that there are some quirky, obscure rules out there. So many players are so adamant about rulings on their court; it amazes me how much they DON"T know. They seem to sound like they know what they are talking about, so their opponents just agree.

Here are 7 funky, out-of-the-ordinary rules that you can throw at your rule-monger opponent. (Good luck enforcing them) LOL

1. A PERSPIRING PLAYER WIPES HIS SWEATY FOREHEAD WITH THE TENNIS BALL. IS THIS A VIOLATION? Yes, it materially changes the ball.

2. YOUR OPPONENT’S VISOR OR HAT TOUCHES THE NET WHEN SHE LUNGES FOR A BALL. WHAT IS THE RULING ON THIS? You receive the point because no part of the body, equipment, or apparel can touch the net.

3. YOUR OPPONENT GOES WIDE AND HITS THE BALL AROUND THE NET. IS THE BALL STILL IN PLAY? Absolutely, now hit it back!

4. YOU SEE THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET TO THE BALL IN TIME, SO YOU THROW YOUR RACKET AT IT HOPING TO MAKE CONTACT. LUCK IS ON YOUR SIDE AND THE BALL AND RACKET CONNECT, SENDING THE BALL OVER THE NET. YOU ARE GIVEN THE POINT. GOOD CALL? No, everyone knows that you can’t throw your racket…ever.

5. A PLAYER CAN'T WHIFF THE BALL WHEN SERVING. A server can’t unsuccessfully attempt to hit the ball when serving. If the server swings and misses the ball, it is a fault

6. A PLAYER CAN STAND ANYWHERE ON OR OUTSIDE HIS/HER SIDE OF THE COURT UNLESS SERVING. As long as a player is on his/her correct side of the net, a non-serving player can stand anywhere on the court or outside the court lines.

7. A PLAYER CAN HIT TWICE DURING A SWING AS LONG AS IT'S UNINTENTIONAL.
A player is only allowed to swing at the ball once, but it’s legal for a player to unintentionally hit the ball twice with his/her racket during the swing motion.

Enforcing the rules is always problematic in self-governed league play.
Knowledge is power!

Excellent read. It is definitely a strategy to consider!

Returning against a team serving in the I-formation can be very intimidating, which, of course, is the reason they do it. It’s confusing for the returner and usually leads to indecisiveness and a p…
