Walkers Gym 20,000 sq ft facility that offers a wide range of equipment and services from Power Lifting, Competitive Fitness Training, Aerobics and much more!

Walker's Gym has been a commercialized gym since 1991. The gym began in the basement of Curtis Walker's home . The need for additional space and desire to open a "commercial gym" by Barry,Curtis's son led the way to moving the gym to Hopewell, A further need for expansion was followed with a second move into the present location. Barry, Curtis, and Jeany, are all competitive power lifters. Curtis

is a state, national, and world champion power lifter and state record holder. Barry is a state and national power lifting champion and state record holder. He is, also , a competitive bodybuilder and has earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Jeany is a state and national powerlifting champion. She has, also, won several bodybuilding competitions, and has earned her black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Barry and Jeany both have regular jobs, in addition to working at the gym, training, and competing. Curtis is retired from Allied and enjoys helping members.

Reminder that on Tuesday, June 2nd, at the Hopewell library, Walkers Gym will have a workshop on heart rate training zones and losing body fat. Peak VO2 testing is the way to identify your heart rate zones and which zones you utilize more fat when exercising. Prescription Exercise - individualized and scientific.

Jeany's anniversary message to Barry:

It's our wedding anniversary- the 22nd of May,
Forty-four married years, that's the total today.

The years have been full of operations on you,
A ruptured appendix, way at the beginning, should have been my big clue.

Then it was stents and open heart surgeries 2, too,
Both shoulders replaced and an infection that grew.

Shoulder number 3 came along with a PICC line, oh my,
Jeany's not a nurse, but it was either her or maybe die.

Rescued kitties and dealing with crazies at the gym,
Navigating Haygen and train rides to visit him.

Yearly trips to the Sandals resorts to celebrate this,
And building an 804 pool that's purely bliss.

Happy 44 years- time goes by like a skip and a hop,
We have to keep moving because time and wrinkles never stop.

The importance of VO2 and one's health was featured in the AARP magazine this month. Mike Craven is testing peak VO2 at Walkers Gym and writing exercise prescriptions based on your VO2 data. He is offering seminars to answer questions and help you understand the benefits of the data. Join us on Tuesday, June 2 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hopewell library to learn about VO2 and weight loss.
