🌄 Adventure Thursday at Ascent Mountain Fitness 🌄

Adventure comes in all shapes and sizes.
Sometimes it’s a new trail, a new workout, or trying something that pushes you outside your comfort zone. And sometimes… adventure finds you when you weren’t even looking for it.

This week, our hot tubs are getting a little adventure of their own. In order to keep improving your recovery experience here at Ascent Mountain Fitness, our hot tubs will be closed for the next 2 days for repairs and replacement tubs to be installed.

We know the hot tubs are a favorite way to relax, recover, and recharge after a workout, and we appreciate your patience while we work to make them even better for you. Sometimes the path to something better comes with a short detour — but the end result is worth it.

Thank you for rolling with us while we make these upgrades. We can’t wait for you to enjoy the refreshed space soon. 💪♨️🏔️

💪 Nutrition Tip Tuesday: Protect Your Muscle as You Age 💪

Did you know that as we get older, we naturally begin to lose muscle mass and strength? This process is called sarcopenia, and it can make everyday things harder over time—carrying groceries, climbing stairs, getting up off the floor, or simply keeping up with the life you want to live.

Here’s the good news: muscle loss with age is not just a training problem—it’s also a nutrition problem. The research continues to show that one of the best ways to fight age-related muscle loss is by combining regular strength training with enough quality protein throughout the day.

✅ Why it matters: Muscle helps support balance, joint stability, metabolism, recovery, and long-term independence. As we age, keeping that muscle becomes one of the most important things we can do for our health.

🥩 This week’s nutrition tip: Make sure each meal includes a solid source of protein. Think:

Eggs

💪 Motivational Monday 💪
This weekend, Ascent Mountain Fitness was proud to be part of the Hope Fun Run—and it was a great reminder that fitness doesn’t have to look perfect to make a difference.

It doesn’t matter if you ran the whole course, walked part of it, showed up to support a friend, or just took the first step to be involved. What matters is that you got out, moved your body, and invested in your health and your community.
We loved seeing so many people of all ages come together, support one another, and make movement part of the weekend.

Events like the Hope Fun Run are a reminder that being active doesn’t always start in the gym—it starts with saying yes to movement, yes to community, and yes to doing something good for yourself.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to get started, let this be it:

🏔️ Mobility & Recovery Wednesday: Wake Up Your Shoulders!

Did you know that shoulder stiffness is one of the most common mobility complaints among active adults? Whether you slept on your shoulder wrong, spent hours at a desk, worked out hard this week, or just feel tight and achy, a few minutes of mobility work can help improve range of motion and reduce discomfort.

Try these 3 simple shoulder mobility exercises first thing in the morning:

1️⃣ Wall Angels
✅ Improves posture and shoulder mobility

Stand with your back against a wall.
Press your lower back, upper back, and head gently into the wall.
Raise your arms into a "goal post" position.
Slowly slide your arms overhead and back down.
Perform 10 slow repetitions.
Tip: Keep your elbows and wrists touching the wall as much as possible.

2️⃣ Thread the Needle Stretch
✅ Helps loosen the upper back and rear shoulder muscles

Start on your hands and knees.
Slide one arm underneath your body and across the floor.
Allow your shoulder and head to rest gently on the ground.
Hold for 20–30 seconds.
Repeat on both sides 2–3 times.
Tip: Breathe deeply and relax into the stretch.

3️⃣ Shoulder CARs (Controlled Articular Rotations)
✅ Improves shoulder joint health and mobility

Stand tall with one arm extended.
Slowly move your arm through the largest pain-free circle possible.
Move forward, overhead, behind, and back to the start.
Complete 5 slow circles in each direction on each arm.
Tip: Slow and controlled beats fast every time.

💡 Recovery Reminder: Mobility isn't about stretching harder—it's about moving better.

Spending just 5 minutes each morning improving shoulder mobility can help reduce stiffness, improve workout performance, and make everyday activities feel easier.

A long weekend is great for making memories, relaxing, and enjoying life. But today is a reminder that progress comes from what we do consistently—not what we do occasionally.

If you enjoyed some extra food, missed a workout, or took a few days to recharge, that's okay. The goal isn't perfection. The goal is getting back on track.

Remember:
✅ One workout won't make you fit.
✅ One missed workout won't make you unfit.
✅ What matters most is showing up again today.

Take the first step. Go for a walk. Lift some weights. Join a class. Stretch. Swim. Do something that moves you closer to your goals.

The strongest people aren't the ones who never fall off track—they're the ones who keep getting back on.
