Lion Heart Jiu Jitsu

Lion Heart Jiu Jitsu A faith-based, family-oriented martial arts academy that specializes in the art of Brazilian JiuJitsu State Department contract company Triple Canopy, Inc.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from Kodokan Judo ground fighting (newaza) fundamentals. Brazilian jiu-jitsu eventually came to be its own art through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of judo. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can suc

cessfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as "rolling") and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition, in relation to progress and ascension through its ranking system. Since its inception in 1882, its parent art of judo was separated from older systems of Japanese Jujutsu by an important difference that was passed on to Brazilian jiu-jitsu: it is not solely a martial art, it is also a sport; a method for promoting physical fitness and building character in young people; and, ultimately, a way (Do) of life. Professor George Wehby is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Professor Tony Passos (Atos). With over 30 years in the Martial Arts, George also holds Black Belt ranks in Goju Karate (Robert Roach) and Nisei Kito Ryu Jiu-Jitsu (Sergio DeCasien). George is a Personal Defense expert and served as the television Host of Personal Defense on the Sportsman Channel for 2 Seasons. George is a former Marine, former Police Officer, former Federal Air Marshal and former Tactical Instructor for the U.S. George has been teaching Martial arts for over 12 years to men, women and children. He has a methodical, direct and practical teaching style that allows students to reach their goals in record time. George is an experienced and successful competitor; however, most importantly as a coach, he has led students to the medal podium at the highest levels of the Sport.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: ELI DAVIS

Eli started his Jiu Jitsu journey right here in our kids program. Today, he’s an orange belt and our newest kids coach.

What stands out most about Eli isn’t just his Jiu-Jitsu, it’s his humility. Despite being fully capable of controlling grown men on the mats, he remains humble, respectful, and always willing to learn.

We’re proud of the young man Eli has become and excited to see the impact he’ll have on the next generation of Lion Heart students.

Keep leading by example, Eli.

That’s when you know you’re in trouble. 😂 🥋

Getting flattened in half guard? Try this simple recovery drill.

Reverse the crossface, bridge up to make them post, then check the bicep and recover your position. Have your partner pummel and flatten you back out, then repeat.

Drill it until the recovery becomes automatic. 🥋

🥋 NEW CLASS SCHEDULE — BEGINNING OCTOBER 5!

We’re making a few schedule updates at Lion Heart Jiu Jitsu to better serve our students and families.

🦁 KIDS JIU JITSU

Starting the week of October 5, we’re adding two additional kids classes!

Monday & Wednesday | 5:00–6:00 PM
Tuesday & Thursday | 5:00–6:00 PM

This gives families the flexibility to choose the schedule that works best for them. Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday.

🥋 ADULT JIU JITSU

We’re also adjusting our Tuesday/Thursday adult schedule.

Tuesday & Thursday | 6:00–7:30 PM

Instead of separate classes, we’ll now have one extended evening class combining our Fundamentals + Intermediate/Advanced curriculum.

This format allows us to train together, build strong fundamentals, and continue developing more advanced skills all in one 90-minute class.

Monday & Wednesday adult classes will remain unchanged.

We’re excited about these changes and what they’ll mean for our Lion Heart students and community.

Just another week at Lion Heart.

Hard rounds. Big laughs. New faces. Familiar faces. Kids growing, adults improving, and a community that keeps showing up.

Jiu-Jitsu is the training, but the people are what make Lion Heart special.

Grateful for this team and everything we’re building together.

And this isn’t just for Lion Heart members.
