Last, but certainly not least, is our Abby. She has been with us longer than any other guard here, and if you had asked me at the end of her first year, I would have told you I doubted she would return. (BOY, are we glad she did!) Will she be applying to be a manager here next year? We’ll have to wait and see!

Abby will be a senior at Hoopeston Area HS this fall who plans to become a cosmetologist after graduation. She became a lifeguard because she loves swimming and being outdoors. She was a valuable member of the Stingrays this summer. (We just wish we had had a swim team to offer her for the last 9 years!)

Her favorite part of working at the pool has been seeing all the little kids excited to swim, and her least favorite (surprise, surprise) is unclogging toilets.

She would love to see Cody Johnson in concert again! Her dad gave her the nickname Jooce (there’s got to be a story there), and everyone should know that her dad lets her practice cutting his hair.

Enjoy your senior year Abby! It has been a treat being your boss!

This is Cayden, known by others as Iron Giant. He will be starting his senior year at Hoopeston Area HS in a few weeks. He became a lifeguard to save for a car, just like his older brother, Gus. He sees himself becoming trained and being a lineman electrician in 5 years.

His favorite part of the job is working with his co-workers and meeting new people. His least favorite part is cleaning up after the people who leave big messes in the concession area.

He would love to attend a “Suburban” or Avenge Sevenfold concert. One thing he thinks everyone should know about him is that he is profoundly deaf in his right ear and has hearing loss in his left ear. Even with that challenge he is a great guard! Thanks Cayden!

Here’s Adisyn! She is a first-year guard who came to us from Armstrong Township HS. She will be a junior there this year. In five years, she sees herself as a professional in the workforce, preferably as a radiology technician. She applied to be a lifeguard because she loves being outside and wanted to be seeing the pool every day. She also likes making sure everyone is safe at all times.

Her favorite part of being at the pool this summer has been making new connections with people she works with after meeting them. She didn’t know any of the guards when she came here. And she has enjoyed making connections with the managers. She has not enjoyed people getting grumpy at her for blowing her whistle at them. (Remember, the guards are all here to keep you safe!)

She is known by most people as Adi, which is short for Adisyn. She would love to see Randy Travis in concert, and something she thinks everyone should know about her is that she is on the Hoopeston Stingrays swim team. (She had a great first season with the Rays as well!)

We’re happy to have you, Adi!

This is Jaylyn! She is a first year Lifeguard from here in Hoopeston, and she’ll be a sophomore this year. She says she became a lifeguard because it was something she and her sister could do together. In five years, she sees herself in college and meeting new people along the way. Her favorite memory of this year is when she and Hunter signed the concession stand wall. Her least favorite would be when she 🤮🤮 due to the heat.

Her nickname is Jay, and she loves playing and watching volleyball. Something she thinks everyone should know about her is that she takes everything to her heart and that she’s an emotional person. I would add it’s also important to know that there is only one n in her name.

Jaylyn has had a great year here at the pool, and we hope it’s not her last!
