The end of our summer☀️skating season culminated in two very successful USFS test sessions - one for moves in the field/freestyle, and one dedicated just to ice dance!
Congrats to my students: Kiera, whom I team coach with Teri Nordle and Patsy Hill, for passing her intermediate moves in the field +2, .fabs for passing her adult bronze moves +4, and for passing her preliminary moves +4 only 3 months after passing her pre-pre moves! In our ice dance test session, Carol also passed her first two adult track ice dance tests (Dutch waltz and Canasta Tango) with honors marks, and Cadie passed her Canasta Tango and Rhythm Blues with honors marks!
Humble brag to ME (🤓) for passing my standard track Viennese Waltz +3 and my Argentine Tango +6!

Test papers from my last 4 ice dance tests, 3 pre-gold and 1 gold, between February and May, 2022… +5 ➡️ +8!! Honors AND Distinction!! 🤩 Only 3 more Gold dances left before I become a USFS Gold Medalist Ice Dancer!
This has not been an easy achievement for me as a new mom/dedicated coach. Most weeks, the only chance I get to practice is for a brief 30 min lesson on a public session in the mornings, as all my time during freestyles is booked with students! Thankfully, I have the most excellent coach around - my Mom , the OG - who helped me through insecurities, frustrations, and watched my daughter Luna rink side while simultaneously coaching me! I couldn’t have done this without her, and I’m so grateful for the time she made in her busy schedule to coach me.
I am usually sharing my pride and excitement for my students’ achievements on the ice, but today I’m going to give myself a pat on the back for passing these tests beyond what I thought possible, despite the many challenges I faced to do so! Skating isn’t easy, and there’s always a reason why we ‘can’t’, but I made these personal goals a priority, and it paid off- you can do it too!! Can’t wait for the next test session!

Shout out to this brilliant rising star for absolutely shining in her first ever USFS test session - passing her Dutch Waltz after only 8 weeks of ice dance lessons, and her pre preliminary Moves in the Field with honors marks!
I met Cadie back in January while she and her family were searching for a coach to take her beyond the Learn To Skate program. As a coach, the job is to share as much knowledge, experience, nurturing and dedication as possible, but ultimately, the majority of progress comes down to the skater’s drive, determination, ability to absorb information, and natural talent. Cadie has all of these characteristics and more! She’s made my job as her coach exciting, inspirational, and, overall, pretty easy 😏.
We’re rocker-ing and swing-rolling our way to prelim and pre juv moves, finishing up our preliminary ice dances, prepping for axel and double jump training this summer, and getting excited for Cadie’s first program and competition season! Can’t wait to share more of her progress!
I’m so proud of you Cadie!

A HUGE congrats to my incredible team of skaters that traveled from NYC to compete at the Northeast ISC Winter Open in Haverhill, MA today! skated beautifully and took home 🥇at her very first competition ever, (whom I was honored to stand in for as her coach) snagged a 🥈 to add to her medal collection, and went home with a 🥉 after returning to the ice for the first time last April after a 6 year hiatus (also her first time ever competing!). To top it all off, who moved away from NYC to pursue her post college career, drove down from VT to cheer her teammates on!
Not pictured here is the incredibly lovely Kathleen Feeney, whom I team coach with my mother . She competed in a super tough, large flight of silver ladies, and - with a skate that was practically flawless- placed admirably in 5th!!
I am so proud of these woman for their dedication, determination, and desire to be their best selves on the ice! Keep up the hard work… it’s paying off!

I am honored to be a coach to many, and proud to stand alongside the many wonderful coaches who have been positive influences and role models in my life! Special shout out to my coach growing up Alice Hayward , my wonderful mother and coach Teri Nordle , and my fabulous colleagues on the ice in NYC and New Hampshire, especially .k.spencer .cat.official ⭐️ Thank you for all you do!

Throwin’ these up here for a fun post : A 6 year old Megan with big dreams and even bigger sleeves. It was a simpler time then, when heavy pink blush, glitter embellishments, and oversized shoulder poofs made us all feel like champs.
Skating has come a LONG way since then, and so have I. Remember that skating it’s a lifelong journey (for those who are brave enough to take it on), and where you are now is not where you will be 5, 10, or 28 years from now. Learn to love yourself for who you are right now in this moment, continue to grow fearlessly, and look forward to the days you can look back on the skater you formerly were with a big smile and a lot of compassion. 💙

🌟SAVE THE DATE🌟 We’re back at it again, and this year is bigger and better than ever!
☀️💙⛸💪
After the past year, we wanted to offer the very best to the adult skating community, who stuck with us through the pandemic in zoom classes, and stayed focused on their training even when rinks were closed.
So this year, we rented the whole rink for you guys!
Join us for the 3rd Annual Skate//Sun//Social Adult Figure Skating camp, presented by !
This camp isn’t your average skating camp. We are all about strengthening the bond of the adult figure skating community through our shared passion and experiences! Our 3 day camp features daily off ice classes in dance, choreography, and strength training, 2 hrs of on ice workshops, educational panels on topics we know y’all want to learn more about, AND daily social events to get to know your peers (did someone say boardwalk cocktails in the summer sunset?!). The camp will culminate with a filmed showcase where all skaters will perform a group number as a team and have the opportunity to perform solo, followed by a giant beach party to celebrate our shared success (oh yeah, did I mention the rink is at the BEACH?!) 🏖
The website will be live soon to reserve your spot, but please email [email protected] for more info! ALL adult skaters of ALL levels are welcome from ALL areas! Come one, come ALL! Join me, coach and for the coolest event of the summer! We love you!

And the ⭐️Most Improved Skater⭐️ award goes to..... 🥁....... !! You guys... raise your hand if you’re an adult skater with a specific element that is your arch nemesis. Go ahead. I’ll wait. ... I’m willing to bet you all have your hands up! We ALL experience moments in our skating where we’re faced with an element that literally feels impossible, regardless of level or experience.
For Krissy, the Mohawk was a beast that simply could not be tamed. Bless her heart, I have watched this athlete completely eat ice time and time again trying to master this thing. We loving call her the ‘fainting goat’ because she’d step onto that forward inside edge in preparation for the mohawk, then just freeze in place half way through the step... often freeze so hard, she’d be looking you dead in the eye while she was falling. (🤣 LOVE YOU Krissy) But the coolest thing about Krissy, definitely the thing I admire most about her, is her determination - the kid never stopped practicing, never stopped trying, never stopped asking questions, always asked to try one more time, never felt too defeated to take something positive away from every lesson... and here we are: Krissy has a beautiful 5 step Mohawk sequence. We’ll spend the summer cleaning this up, then we’re taking those bronze moves with CONFIDENCE 💪

I am proud of all my students for all of their personal milestone successes, but this one is close to my heart. I’m very proud of you Krissy. You’ve earned this!

Celebrating with and some new arms to correct previous issues in this epically gorgeous camel spin! 😍🤤🤩
** When in doubt, change yo’ arms! Adding/changing your arm position in a spin can be an excellent creative solution to counteract pesky habits (I.e. falling to your inside edge like Adena was struggling with- by linking her arms behind her back, it helps her remain centered and pressed over her left side), increase the speed of your revolutions, AND add a bit o’ the old panache!! ✨🙆‍♀️✨
Ask your coach for recommendations (not all arm positions are created equal and some will introduce new challenges to work on) or heck, just wing it, and try adding your own creative flare! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! Go, make some magic!! ✨ a

Gotta love dodging hockey players on crowded Sunday afternoon sessions, am I right? 🤪 despite the chaos, Alex and I were able to string together a little sequence showcasing some of the new skills she’s working on outside of her test! The spin at the end was supposed to be a catch foot camel... but I’ll still give points for making it work, even when it doesn’t go as planned. And also for that jig at the end. ✨

Talk about a *PERFECT* air position!! 😍Here’s how the story behind this epic capture goes:
Adena was a highly accomplished skater in her youth, but has taken a 12 year hiatus from the sport. As a returning adult skater, she felt comfortable doing most things, but jumping just didn’t FEEL good. Last week was our first lesson together and ALL WE DID was edge work. We took the time experience what made our bodies feel GOOD on the ice, and left the other stuff out of it.
During our second lesson, we literally started with standstill waltz jumps and worked our way through the single jumps until we ended up here, on the harness.
In case you can’t hear the conversation, it goes something like this:
Me: that was absolutely beautiful. Want to try a double?
Adena: I actually don’t really like double salchow’s ... wait, did you mean, like, double Sal or... ?
Me: no, like, a double axel. 😱 (maniacal laughter echoes through the rink) Just stay in your air position- I got you. ✨
Welcome to the team Adena, and a huge congrats for pushing past your comfort zone and trusting the process! (She was shaking afterwards, but it was that GOOD kind of shaking from awesomeness!) If you’re a returning adult skater, remember that you can’t compare yourself to who you used to be on the ice... because you’re already X years stronger, and X years smarter since you last skated! Find a coach that will support you physically AND mentally, and just enjoy the ride... because anything kids can do, you can do to! 💪⛸ Don’t forget to follow .and.the.city for progress videos of two awesome returning adult skaters!
