Aikido can be translated as “The Way of Harmony”, and is a peaceful approach to the ancient Japanese Budo traditions. It teaches fluid movements based on balance and positioning. The Aikidoist learns to blend with an opponent’s energy and redirect it to render an attacker helpless through off-balances, joint locks, and throws. Aikido is a non-competitive art, where students work only to better themselves rather than to conquer others. Kids Aikido
Aikido is a great art for kids because it is not combative. We're not focused on kicking and punching, instead we're learning how to move our body in relationship to someone else, how to keep our balance while taking theirs, and how to fall down without getting hurt. Kids learn to count in Japanese and they learn the names for key concepts, but most importantly, they learn to coordinate and control their body through fun movement games and tumbling. Raji Ukemi Fitness
Ukemi is a term borrowed from Aikido where it is normally described as “The Art of Falling Down”. This class uses basic movements and concepts from traditional budo to improve core fitness without requiring any knowledge of martial arts. The class is appropriate for teenagers and adults regardless of age or physical condition. It helps prevent injuries while increasing flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination. Jodo
Jodo translates to “The Way of the Stick”. Jodo is a classical martial art, that uses a walking stick (jo) to defend against attack from a sword (ken). This art teaches students how to move efficiently and improve coordination and balance, gaining symmetry between left and right sides of the body. Students also learn the basics of Kendo, “The Way of the Sword”. Jodo is learned through a series of basic movements that get combined into increasingly more interesting and subtle "Katas" (scripted interactions between the ken and the jo).
