A hui hou, Aaron Char — one of the most selfless, giving people we have ever been blessed to know. A Beachboy, a friend, and family in the Waikīkī Beach Services ʻohana.

For nearly 20 years he shared this beach with the world — through the art of surfing, through his captivating illustrations, and through his love for taking care of his island home. He put his whole heart into everything, without ever expecting anything in return.

He loved this beach we call home. He loved teaching people to surf, telling the stories of this place, and watching someone light up on their first wave. He was a prolific artist who documented Beachboy life daily — the real Waikīkī, the surf, and the people who make it.

Beyond the beach and the art, he carried deep aloha for this ʻāina and for Hawaiʻi nei. A core member of Sustainable Coastlines Hawai’i since its founding in 2011, he flew island to island cleaning our coastlines and inspiring others to join him.

Aaron was the embodiment of aloha — a humble soul who gave it freely, to everyone. He was well loved by many, and we are all so lucky to have had the chance to know him and call him a dear friend.

This is just aloha for now. Keep saying his name, keep telling his stories, and let his legend live on. Go catch a wave for Aaron 🤙
