Tango fashion wear with Rina Gendelman, fashion and Turquoise Tango Shoes with Pimon Martel, tango art with Heather Anders.
This year, we also add alternative practicas on Saturday and Sunday with live music, too. Miguel, Joe, Pierre Grill and maybe even Craig Einhorn may join us. (Don't miss this event..I 'm not planning on doing it the following year.)

Tuesday, November 13 Medici's Milonga in Manoa

A note- most of the pieces performed at Tango Extravaganza by Fernanda Ghi, Guillermo Merlo, Alfredo Minetti & Company were composed by Astor Piazzolla, avant-garde composer from the 1950's. His music was at times considered strange by traditionalists but it served to bring tango to the world outside of Buenos Aires and South America. His compositions were also referred to as Tango Export, the music that brought tango to the world.

Fernando and Guillermo were probably the first top tango couple to dance to Piazzolla's music at a major tango festival. They did a workshop on Piazzolla's tangos. It was Nora's Tango Week in 2004 and the song was "Vuelvo a Sur".

And they danced so superbly on stage at Orvis Auditorium in Honolulu to the tangos performed by Minetti & Co.

In honor of all the above... this Tuesday, Larry and I will offer an evening of the music of Piazzolla's music.

Newsflash - Yulia Maluta of Santa Barbara in Honolulu June 27 - July 1st
Tentatively, we are planning a couple of workshops with Yulia Maluta next week Saturday, June 30th, in lieu of the regular Saturday class.
She will offer a workshop on Follower's Technique & Adornments and we will co-teach a workshop together - title to be determined.
If anyone is interested in private lessons with Yulia, please contact me.

George's travels...
Las Vegas Mastery Camp 2019 was fun.
Christy and I taught 15 workshops to dancers of all levels. We also hosted our featured once-a-year-in-Vegas Milonga which enjoyed the attendance of many friends/tango dancers and teachers of Las Vegas. As an added attraction, Juan "El Diabolito" Santillan performed Argentine Folklorico for the crowd - zapateos, bombos and bolas). He also contributed his legendary gaucho skills to our tango performance for the Dance Vision banquet that Thursday night.

Burning Tango Festival
The faculty was filled with great dancers and professionals such as Nicholas Tapia and Stef Berg, former USA salon champions, Adam Cornett and Naomi Harris, Augustin and Nataly, Maxi Copello and Raquel Makow (who were just here in Honolulu) as well as Christy and myself.

The workshops were well attended with over 60-80 students per class. The practicas and milongas had great music by great deejays. Pimon Martell of Vancouver was there, too, with her line of shoes and clothing. We'll see her here in Honolulu this coming January for Hawaii Tango Marathon 2019

The town is made up of lots of old style wooden buildings with wooden dance floors. The local cafes had excellent coffee, pastries, sandwiches and bagels. My favorite was a toasted bagel with cream cheese and thick-sliced maple-smoked bacon. I can't wait to enjoy that again next year.
