Shootz…heavy heart hearing this. Taylor Shane was an excellent waterman and steersman and always had that big smile and good vibes, on the water. Many good memories out on the water in Waikiki where he would steer canoes with the Waikiki BeachBoys Canoe Club. We all going miss you, braddah. Aloha ʻoe 🤍
Dearest friends and community members,
It is with profound sadness that I announce the death of one of the newest members of the Valley Center Fire Protection District Fire Family. Firefighter-Paramedic Shane McCann was found in full cardiac arrest in his apartment in Encinitas on May 3, 2026. The Encinitas Fire Department arrived and the Fire-Paramedic teams were unable to revive him. The circumstances of his untimely death are under investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and it is the wish of Shane’s family to have their privacy respected during this difficult time of grieving. The Valley Center Fire Protection District will honor Shane by flying our mourning flags and shrouding our badges until May 10, 2026 at sunset.
Shane started his fire service career after already serving the public as a beach lifeguard and boat captain /water safety specialist for the TV industry. Shane will be remembered as a compassionate healthcare provider with a passion to serve the community and others who needed his expertise. His love of the Ocean, riding BIG waves in Hawaii and his unconditional friendship will be shared by the Fire Department and Lifeguard Service to provide cherished memories of the life he lived.
Sincerely with respect and admiration,
Josef G. Napier
