Growing fast and ready to spread their wings... but not quite yet.

These young bald eagles are quickly learning to spread their wings, but it will still be a few months before they’re ready to leave the nest.

Eating constantly and gaining over 100 grams a day, these eaglets will be nearly full grown in about three to four weeks. But it will still take some time before they are ready to fledge at about eight to 14 weeks. Both mom and dad will continue to provide food for them until they become true “free birds.”

But kind of like the kid who goes to college and comes home on the weekends, eagles will continue to develop their life skills with the adults caring for them for another four to 10 weeks after leaving the nest.

Even after leaving the nest, during the post-fledging period, young eagles often follow the adults, staying fairly close to the nesting area.

It’s really like the immature eagles are saying, “If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?”

The club will once again be assisting with the annual Whitetails Unlimited event in Kutztown on Saturday, April 18th. The event consists of several games, raffles, a dinner, and auctions where most of the prizes are rifles. Any item won or purchased will be given out that day at the event! Anyone interested can contact us for tickets or online. Last year was a great success and everybody had fun!!

Okay, everyone, here is the next to fill up. This weekend's event is getting close to full, so now let's help Berks County have another great year and keep this legacy going for Brian Mummolo. He worked so hard to build this event up. We want to make him proud.
