Ho-Flo MTB, the shop’s mountain bike club for youth, got some dirt behind their ears at its first illinoismtb event this past weekend. The team rode the course on Saturday for practice before rolling up to the line for Sunday’s age group races. They had so much legs-burning, lungs-screaming fun out at Palos Forest Preserve, met a lot of almost-as-cool kids, found a praying mantis, and Spencer and Elliot wound up on the podium. Max might have podiumed if it weren’t for a mechanical. We’re so proud of them, their supportive parents, and our volunteer coaches. Plus everyone looked great in their Minecraft–themed kits, courtesy unshaven comics’ Marc Fishman and our neighbor Nix Nax. Next race is the Big Marsh Bash at Big Marsh bike park, October 25. Come out and scream for these kiddos!

Uriel knows what’s up: searching for his first bike as an adult, he couldn’t (and shouldn’t!) suppress the kid inside when he saw the Fairdale Taj 27.5” BMX bike in Trans Winter Blue. Simple, quick, and grabs grins from all who lay eyes upon it. You can put a Taj through its paces at Big Marsh’s 10th Anniversary party this Sunday, noon–5pm. We’re bringing the Taj, some Fairdale Hareraisers, Sunday BMX bikes and Trek Roscoes to demo at the park—like a supercharged test ride. Hope to see you there, and enjoy your new whip, Uriel!

Yellow is the color of biking. Your bike might not be yellow, but colors have meaning, and yellow means riding a bike. It’s the color of happiness, smiles, joy; tension releasing, the glow from within. Celeste gets it, and decided to share the message with the world on her new Trek Verve 2 Low Step in Baja Yellow. Celeste loves the low-step frame, the easy pedaling, and the upright & comfy perch as she enjoys exploring the Southland’s bike paths. Thanks for spreading the bike love, Celeste! Another custom build, a different adventure: a BMX rider, Douglas was ready to create his forever bike to get him back to the bike park, and needed a shop with the BMX hookups and experience to build it. Douglas’s canvas was the 2027 Kink Downside, and then with Douglas in the director’s chair, we went to work, adding the BSD Backstreet/Frontstreet XLT wheel set, Odyssey Thunderbolt cranks and Odyssey pedals turning a BSD chainring, Odyssey Evo brake and gyro, and color-matched BSD tires and grips in teal. A dope-ass/also-terrifying saddle courtesy of Kink is the chaos cherry on top. We’re stoked to have BMX in the shop again (check out the Sunday Bikes and Fairdales in stock) and more places to ride than ever (Big Marsh, pump tracks in every direction but Homewood-Flossmoor don’t get us started). Thanks, Douglas, for asking us to help you build your new whip!

Don’t fence me in—Dan is a man with a plan to ride coast-to-coast in 2027, and his journey started this summer by asking us to help him build a rig that will get him there. We started with a Salsa Fargo Ti frame and Cutthroat carbon fork, and Teravail Fluent Mountain carbon wheel set. Since Dan’s plan involves hundreds and hundreds of hours in the saddle, we threw in a full bike fit session which revealed a bonus: Dan wanted plenty of room for a future handlebar bag without giving up space on the Teravail Radia carbon handlebar. His preferred riding position left us plenty of room to fun-gineer a bag mount from another stem and a cut-down bar—stupid in the good way! Restrap bags swallow plenty of gear for his cross-country ride, and Salsa’s Alternator adventure-tested rear rack is rock solid. Dan’s currently building his hours and bike camping chops with long weekend overnighters and shorter multi-day tours. Wish him tailwinds when you see him around the region!
